Over the years the sites and places have changed due to the different dogs that have made up our family. We stayed many times on Warwick and Uttoxeter Racecourse sites and enjoyed letting our dogs run free in the middle of the course.  But that all changed when we had two whippets,  as you know whippets are sight hounds and will chase most things that move,  so now it's only sites with fenced and secure dog areas,  the bigger the better,   because to see the two of them playing and running at speed makes our holiday.

You may know this already, but can I suggest Cirencester Park to you? The site has a huge, enclosed dog area - all our setters have loved it over the years. There's also access to the park itself next door where dogs are allowed off lead , though it might be problematic for whippets! Nothing better than watching pairs of dogs race around playing!  smile

    Hi Moulesy.

We have stayed at Cirencester Park many times over the years and always enjoyed it,  but I think the new access road to the site sounds a bit of a nightmare,  we always loved it and so close to the town and park was just great for us,    but we will wait and see what happens to that road.

We had a sight hound, too, CGB, a lurcher so I know exactly what you mean. Wincanton was fabulous for him. Sadly both the site and our dog are no more.

The access road into the Cirencester Park site is perfectly fine and certainly an improvement on the old road!

Hawes Club Site has a lovely big fenced/walled dog area adjacent to the Site.

Hawes is OK as long as you have dogs that won't leap over a wall into the sheep field. Hillhead is a reasonable size and contained although our old terrier would have gone through the hedge if she could.

Our son has a whippet and we know how they love a run. smile

Others know Hawes better than us, so err on the side of caution. We had Labs with us.......fit, but as un-Whippet like as you could get! 😁

Unfortunately our trip to Hillhead was abandoned this year JVB so I don't know the present conditions. We previously had a true escape artist and could only let her off in exceptionally good circumstances! Our other dog was fine.

I imagine beaches are good for whippets as long as they have good recall, places like Godrevy and Pembrey Country Park with huge expanses of beach nearby.

Beaches are a no go for one of our's off the lead. I have tried most things with her, like training classes and long lead and she is great until something distracts her, like other dogs or piggens feeding on the ground and then all the training goes out of the window,   we're as the other one never leaves my ankles,  they are like chalk and cheese.

Merrose Farm has a good sized enclosed field area, similar to Hillhead.

Our latest arrival is so tiny I suspect she could get through very small gaps so she's on a long lead most of the time.

When our son's whippet saw her I think he thought she was an unusual breed of rabbit, so we couldn't let them off together! 🐰

Whippets are like that, Brue !! I think that the technical name for them is " Thick " ( as in two short planks  !!)

And no, I'm not being unkind -- my nephew has one and it is truly the maddest mutt I've ever come across, honest  !
