I have a Garmin with lifetime maps and whole of Europe. Works for me.

I have used Garmin satnavs for many years now and have the lifetime updates for the whole of Europe. At a push I'd give it 8/10 overall. However, on numerous occasions over the years I've had to revert to Google Maps for the final few minutes of a journey. The only reason I don't change to an alternative is that I'm so used to the Garmin system.

Another vote for Garmin here but others swear by TomTom or a phone app.

If you are travelling in Europe you should download the “Archies” files which are a list of most European sites. It is extremely comprehensive and very accurate due to the feedback and update process. For Garmin this can be downloaded as Points of Interest (POI) using the Loader software on the Garmin site. I am sure that with TomTom etc. you can do the same.

Garmin had a very good technical support system when I used it a couple of years ago.

The Club’s Avtex (?) unit is essentially a Garmin with UK site POIs added. Not sure that it’s worth the extra cost.

There is an alternative to forking out hundreds of pounds if you are happy to run a sat nav on a phone or tablet. >Co- Pilot< offer a subscription service which might appeal to some.

I've got a TomTom camper unit arriving today. It will be interesting to see how it performs. I'm off the Black Knowl shortly so it will be interesting to see if it routes me correctly through Brockenhurst.

I have known my TT GO to send me out one way and back home via a different route. One being longer than the other and down narrower roads.

Granted, I cannot know what the problem was with the first route but it nonetheless does seem rather odd taking longer on worse roads to return home.
