My driving licence is due for renewal next month, i usually get a form from the DVLA to fill in as yet i have not received it . Has any member experienced this or are the DVLA extending the licence as they did with the MOT due to staff shortage and working from home .

I believe the validity of some licences has been extended. Their website will tell you.

I renewed my 10yr licence a week ago, it wasn’t concerning the 70yrs age issue but I was told-‘due to covid if you apply before your licence runs out then the fact you don’t have the new one will not go against you. I used the Post Office e/service, I filled nothing in the post office did it for me & took a photo & sent it off electronically all within 10mins. I got the new one 2 days later👍🏻. Whatever you do. . .Don’t do nothing.

If you had C1 and D1 entitlement did you retain it?

    9) yes there’s a whole raft of them barring coaches, trucks & coaches towing trailers👍🏻

I guess you are under 70 then, but anyone 70 plus doing the same thing online needs to be wary of losing their C1 / D1 entitlement.

It is only when you reach the age of 70 that it changes ,and licences should expire on that date ,no matter when they are renewed before

Correct I am sub 70yrs. I did mention that to the OP. I was passing on info I gleaned from the post office employee regarding the need to sort it rather than not👍🏻

For the OP. I looked it up and, yes, there is an extension in place for over 70 licences due to expire during the remainder of this year.

    https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence-at-70

However, I find it a little contradictory.

    An age thing perhaps?

I've no idea of the age of the DVLA folk who wrote it😜. I'm clever but not that clever🤣🤣🤣

My 3-year Over 70s licence was due to expire in early December

I had the letter a few weeks back { about 4 I think },  went out & got the required photo for the new licence (Gawd that bloke is hideous surprised )

Sent all details off, as required including state of my Diabetes and Lo and Behold a nice plastic licence with a small version of the photo is nestled in my wallet right now { It came on Friday 10th Oct } and three days later came the letter telling me the licence was on it's way  undecided !!

I assume the details are available to any Police patrol car easily, 'cos I have never, ever been asked to produce it, not even by the Bobby who used to live next door  frown
