Bolton Abbey Squeeze
Hi All
We are booked in for Bolton Abbey this weekend, I note from Google Earth the approach from the south along the B6160 goes through a tight squeeze of a archway, max height 10ft 9'. Is this doable in a MH ? (my width dimensions say yes), but what's it like in practice or do I go around and approx. from the north via Thresfield?

The arch is 2.8 m wide and 3.3 m high - but we don't know how big your Motorhome is. - .or who's driving.

It pays to know the dimensions of you MH, and caravan outfit as well. Hundreds go through arch at BA every month, you just need to check your dimensions. And don’t go through too fast!

Yes we keep a note on front dash. In metric and imperial😁

Very true! Two years ago we came South down that road, with signs warning of road closures ahead but some moved aside by others, some obviously now redundant, until it was all very confusing!
Going through that arch would have been fine, with our little caravan, but then the road closure diversions suddenly got real, so we ended up in those tiny lanes and no other options, and it went on that way, so we finally found ourselves on a back road to Ilkley. Even at 2m plus a few cm, (and car and caravan 5 m each in length), we were brushing hedges on both sides at times, and so very grateful not to meet more than very occasional things in t'other direction.
It made for a very tiring drive!0 -
We are 2229mm wide + "long" wing mirrors. They definitely needed to be pulled in! I don't actually recall any warning signs about the restricted width/height on the B road heading north. Mind you, it was torrential rain at the time, so maybe we missed them!

Hi All
Thanks for the advice, at 2.3m wide, 2.9m in height, we went through the arch with the near side mirror folded. The return journey we headed north along the B6160 to Grassington, while this road is doable it does narrow in sections. So take your time and be careful.

Went along this route yesterday minus caravan and some of the locals take no prisoners when it comes to slowing down on bends.
