Nice simple query.

Should the ElectricStep work when the Sargent power switch is turned off?

 

Scenario we have: Drove the VAN to Storage yard after a lovely weekend away, exit driver cab and go around to VAN door entrance to check inside the VAN that all is well, fridge doors left open pickup some luggage and of course turn off the electric system.

Upon locking the VAN the Electric step will not retract. not via the remote key or using the step button on the inside of the VAN to the right.  I had to switch the Sargent power button on, press the step retract button, then switch power off and jump 2 feet out of the VAN.

    Yes, it should operate with the Sargent panel turned off. I think there may be an option in the Sargent settings menu to choose how you want the step to operate. Certainly what you describe is not the usual way.

    I would have exited through the cab😀
