Why do Club sites provide so little for their visitors?

I have been many times to a site at the edge of Cambridge - much the same size as the Club site at Chirk - and of course they sell calor gas - plus camping gaz too, toilet fluid, milk, drinks, basic groceries, and newspapers every day to order. But it's an independent site, family owned and managed for the last 50 years.

Why are Club sites not able to offer customer service like that?

    full +1, maybe 1.5smile

especially  you are correct in that whatever happens in Spain is of no relevance at aLloyd to the OP,

It is useless to compare over there with over here, pure and simple.

As I said before some non club sites (remember the one I quoted)you have to pay the full amount some weeks in advance and lose everything if you cancel, leave early or don't show up.

The club has one of the best at lose one night if you want to leave early:

    c. We understand that members and non-members sometimes wish to leave site earlier than originally planned. We ask you to inform the Site Staff before 12 midday, 72 hours prior to the new departure date. This enables us to make the pitch available to other visitors. Failure to do so will incur a charge of the first cancelled night. The Club reserves the right to change this policy during the season

Have you been to a club site ET? Every club site I've visited had all of those.

Again if you are so upset, or it is not what you expect, by the current system, don't use club sites?

It has worked well so far? I don't think the current conditions are representative?

One can have a stand alone, it doesn't have to be fitted?

We have an electric pan which we use on EHU.

If you read the posts you will see that in some areas here is a shortage of 3.9kg gas bottles. Not sure about other sizes. The OP did phone around. H e wrote 'We then phoned around the area & no one had any.'

Club sites generally sell all that I require and much that I don't require including the items that you mention. Of all that is on sale I am only likely to want ice creams or gas.

So the system now doesn’t work then as he couldn’t get gas. Maybe if wardens were still selling gas they might have had some left

Maybe the garages are only stocking 6kg bottles? That  is what I found near Pandy on the occasion that the site was out of stock until their next delivery.

The site in question is one of the few in the network that as not opened the shop but not sure if that makes a difference. If other sources in the area were out of stock why would it be different on the no mater who was selling gas on site?

As I said he might just have some left over. Wardens get to know what is happening in the area.

From the Calor website the same message on 3.9kg ad 6kg propane.

'Due to high demand the 6kg Propane gas bottle is unavailable to buy online. Please call or visit your local Calor retailer who may have stock available.

You can also sign up for an alert, we will email you when we get the gas bottle you need back in stock.'

Not many caravaners use that size of gas, and before you say you do I know. So maybe all the plumbers etc are buying them so there is every chance if the wardens were still selling them they would have some left. That is of course unless the local plumbers got wind of the site having some in stock

They tend to use either 3.9kg or 6kg - both, according to Calor, in short supply.

No idea how many use the 3.9kg as I lack your apparent knowledge or interest. I have no doubt that 6kg is popular.

Strangely enough the wardens seem to stock based on how much of each size they sell so no reason to suppose that they would have an excess of a particular size. Now isn't that a surprise? laughing

So there is every chance they would have a small propane as not many use them. And knowing some do they would keep a cpl in stock

Indeed I doubt that there are any other campers with arthritis who would struggle to manoeuvre a heavier and bulkier bottle into a gas locker. laughing

I have Rhuemetoid  arthiritis   which affects my elbow joint and I take methotrexate for it, I see the consultant once a year and can lift a 13 kg calor bottle into the gas locker but these days I use the large safe fill . So that makes me one that you doubt.

I started my working life in the merchant navy and have travelled all my life and have lost count of the countries i have worked in or visited throught the world, now just live for a quiet life ambling down and up through France to spend time with family and friends in Spain, always ensuring i have 2 gas cylinders available so that we do not go hungry cool

no he wanted gas so that he could cook some food, Morrisons negate the need for gas as they sell ready meals, it is called salads and delicious already cooked fish and meats. Other supermarkets are available but not sure if within the immediate area. undecided

It isnt the clubs fault the op didnt check their gas before setting off and didnt carry a spare as most do.

It isnt the clubs fault that there was no gas within walking distance.

It isnt the clubs fault the campervan is nearly 8M long.

It isnt the clubs fault the op doesnt like salad.
