Water pumps

Hello All..I have just bought my first motor home - an Elddis Autoquest 180 which I am very happy with but just have a couple of questions that I need help with regarding water pumps. Firstly should they be left on all the time once your hooked up. Are they quite noisy? If so is there anything I can do to reduce noise
