Pump suitable for motorhome tyres

The tyre pressures on my motorhome are 75psi. The pumps at my local garages only go up as far as 60psi. Having tried Halfords, their pumps either do not go up as far as 70psi, or the power cable length is only 3 metres which is not long enough to reach to the rear wheels.

Can anyone suggest a pump that is powerful enough with a suitably long cable?

Many thanks.

The 75psi is standard for all seval? based commercial vehicles as they expect them to be run fully loaded

The majority Motor caravans will not be running at anything like that so can be run a lower pressures ,and also make for less rattles and more pliant ride for your selves,

It may advise in your makers hand book (not base vehicle)

It is some years since we had our last Pug based motor caravan but in the owners hand book their was a list of models and the recomended Tps front and rear

Ours were 50psi front and 55psi rear

Have you not an internal socket in the back of the motorhome and pass through the window?

    Or maybe in a garage?

Extending the cable is another option.

We used to run our coachbuilt Merc based MH at around 60psi and our current Sevel based PVC in the 50’s. Both being 3500kg max weight models. However, our 4250kg Sevel based MH needed pressures in the 70’s.

A garage with a HGV diesel pump may well also have an air line capable of reaching higher pressures.

Hi I bought a Ring Dual power preset pump product code RAC660 max pressure 100psi. It will work on 240v or 12v.

I originally bought a pump from Halford but returned it as it couldn't cope with the higher pressures. My pressures are stated at 80psi and it copes no problems.

We had an American motorhome (7T) with 75-80 psi. As we had a very large storage area i used to carry a small mains 100 psi air compressor (we had a 4KW generator) with its own storage tank. Even this was a sruggle and we really needed a 130psi model, bvut it got me out of a few problems smile The best we found was to go into the lorry lanes in a garage that has air for them, which will have plenty of volume as well. Also use a local tyre speacilist with higher pressure pumps.

Good luck and no doubt you also need a lorry tyre pressure tester due to the higher pressure!

Register with Lidl & Aldi for specials alerts. Every now and then they offer air compressors about 2hp and 8bar (117 psi). I’ve had one for years and they do the job fine, plus many other uses with air tools.

I agree the RING RAC900 is a very good bit of kit, I have one for our 65 PSI caravan tyres.

Note this is not a low powered unit able to operate at the low Amps available from 12 VDC dash sockets, it peaks at 30 Amps so needs to clip directly onto a battery's posts. I use a small Ah portable battery rather than struggle getting to our car batteries.

We leave that at home when travelling and then if needed, use a cycle track pump, easily able to reach 120 psi and ideal for adding a few psi topping up amount of air.

    Ours is an aging Joe Blow, another very good piece of kit;

Watch the pricing of these this can vary greatly, often one of the best is when Halords have a special offers on, not today.

Recently purchased a Michelin Superfast from Halfords to take caravan tyres to 64psi and it lives up to its name tops up in no time at all. Its mains powered for use at home, have a Ring in the car but that struggles above 54psi. Its on the expensive side at £75 it was £64 last month but excellent piece of kit and max is 80psi
