Hello, we have recently had a universal towbar fitted on our 2014 Ford Kuga Titanium X. The tie bar works fine but each time we have used it, shortly after the electrics passenger side door and window have stopped working. An auto electrician has advised us that he believes the towbar electrics are blowing the ones to the door and window. Has anyone experienced this before or does anyone have any advice re this problem.

Many thanks

When you say universal towbar, what and where did it come from and was it fitted by qualified fitters. like the last post, take it back.

We are just in the process of purchasing a Kuga we had the choice of having one out of the show room and the dealer would have the tow bar fitted locally or wait a month or so and have one factory fitted reading your story I'm glad we have gone for the later

This may not be anything to do with the towbar. It may just be a coincidence. A few months ago the windows on my 2015 Mondeo stopped working as they should, thankfully not going down rather than not being able to go up. The local main dealer had to re-programme the windows and now they work absolutely fine. It cost me £55.00 to get the job done. If I remember correctly, the comments at the time by the dealer was that it was not an uncommon issue. Hope this helps.

No tow bars are factory fitted and nearly all dealers use a local mobile tow bar fitter to fit tow bars to brand new cars. I haven't had a tow bar factory fitted on any make of car for at least 17 years and I have a new car every three years. The only dealer to actually fit a tow bar to a brand new car was Volvo, all other manufacturers do not.

Pretty sure my Merc's electric retractable bar was fitted at the factory ... it's named on the build sheet. wink

Kia towbars can be part of the extras list when ordering

I do know if one is fitted later our local Kia dealers will not fit them but subcontract to a specialist towbar company

When I ordered my tow bar and electrics and wanted the KIA ones the dealer said it would be fitted on arrival in the UK in some port or other and before the car was transported to the dealer. I was told that having it done that way ensured the parts had the full warranty just like the rest of the car.

Oh and the club paid for it toosmile

New one on me, my car has the electric deployable towbar and was a factory fitted option.

To the OP, not sure what you are meaning when saying 'Universal', is that CANBUS compatible aftermarket loom or the bypass relay type, if the latter then it could be interfering with your cars CANBUS circuits, get the bypass relay wiring checked out.

No tow bars are factory fitted?? course they are, I have a Range Rover that came with an electonically retractable towbar that was definitely factory fitted, maybe you should electronically retract your statement!!

"Hi all I have a new Kuga Titanium 150 tdci on order, and I have ordered it with the factory fitted towbar.

My question is ,will it come with the electrics wired up correctly ie for the fridge and caravan stability connections etc ?

I have read on the internet that the above are not connected, is this correct. I am due to get my Kuga mid Aug and due to go away in the van end of Aug all being well.

    Thank you"

DS3, i have had at least two cars with factory production line fitted towbars.

To the OP, get the wiring loom changed to a vehicle specific/dedicated loom. It is simply not worth the saving risking using universal looms.
