Hi, just bought our first caravan and it's fitted with a Dometic RMS 8551 fridge freezer.

It's hooked up to the mains, sat on the drive and the fridge isn't working through the electric. It works when we switch it to gas, but we would really prefer it to run through the mains.

The fridge is on when using electric, but it's not cooling or freezing.

Any ideas/ experiences much appreciated.

Thanks 😊

When you say that the fridge is on when using electric - the interior light, switches and control panel run of 12 volt from the battery with gas or mains. As K says, likeliest is the mains element but with the right equipment I suspect it is easy to check with mains power turned off to check the element continuity. These days I get a man.

Would you turn a suitably experienced woman away?

I agree with the above but would ask

    1. How long ago was just?
    2. Did it work then? Towing loosened a wire?
    3. Private or dealer with warranty buy?

If a dealer buy, get it sorted by them under the warranty, but good to have an idea about what the problem cause could be.

I hope this doesnt appear twice and that it was me not pressing reply!

    Hi, thanks for your message.

Yes, all the things you mentioned are running on the 12v. There's nothing happening with the cooling of the fridge/freezer when on electric.

It's under warranty from the dealer so I'll contact them to fix it.

    👍
