Importing and adaptations for US pop-up camper
Hi there,
I’m all new to this and could use a bit of advice. We’re about to ship a 2017 Rockwood Premier over to the UK as we already own it and there doesn’t seem to be an equivalent product available over here.
so far so good, however... the whole thing seems to me to be fraught with difficulties.
i am aware of some of the things we will need to do but would appreciate any advice or tips any of you may have, or indeed, if you’re aware of anything I might have missed.
i know we’ll need to adapt the lights and connector to provide, amongst other things, separate brake lights and indicators. Are there any other lighting things I need to worry about ? Are Fog lights / reversing lights compulsory ?
A brake controller will need to be fitted to the trailer, I don’t want anything obtrusive in my vehicle, does anyone have any recommendations ?
The hitch looks integral rather than replaceable which could mean having to fit a US tow ball. Can anyone recommend a detachable style tow bar which allows you to fit either an EU or US ball ?
i know we’ll need to have the gas converted and, ideally the electrics natively to 230V, but is there anything obvious I’ve missed ?
what is involved in ‘type approval’ and is this required for the trailer to be road-legal in the uk.?
thanks in advance for your help. I’m having a bit of a nightmare trying to find any of the info I need - I have had a load of difficulty to get even the most basic of wiring schedules from Forest River let alone a workshop manual, so it’s proving to be a bit of a pain, and I hope it’s worth it !
