Compact recommendation

I caravan on my own and am well into my 70's.  I was thinking of changing to a new/used motorhome but was looking for a compact campervan or motorhome but ideally one with a garage which is not common for the smaller vehicles.  I just wanted somewhere to store things like fishing tackle etc.  Does such a vehicle exist ?

They do exist but it depends on your budget etc. There's a Swift Rio I think which would meet your needs but it's around 40k.

Try Autotrader etc or just Google your requirements and see what comes up. Hopefully someone on here will have some ideas for you.

Perhaps a smaller motorhome with and overcab bed (as well as a low level bed) might overcome the storage issue? Should be able to cope with the lighter items of fishing tackle.

I've got a Marquis Majestic 125 which has a fairly spacious garage for a 6M van.

No shortage of suitable vans, bill.

PVCs (Panel Van Conversions) offer layouts with a double rear bed below which is ample storage. 

Looking back a while, numerous continental manufacturers and possibly UK ones, produced 'Vans', the Hymer Van being an excellent example. 'Vans' were an alternative to PVCs.

If I was a lone motorhomer, I'd seriously consider the Hymer Van; quality comes at a price though. Knaus, Hobby, and Dethleffs are alternatives and decent quality.

agree with Aspenshaw in that many small (PVC) continental vans have rear beds (see Adrai Twin 600 SP as blueprint) which provides loads of storage under the bed which can also be flipped up to provide taller storage for bikes etc...

i addition tto these PVC and the slimmer 'van' coachbuilts, firms like Hymer (Exsis range) and Carthago (Compactline range, like ours, see photo not avatar) provide A class 'slim, light' coachbuilts with full bike garages.

as above, an idea of budget would aid advice..

I looked at a couple of Rios, which they haven't made for a couple of years, but there still didn't seem much storage room.  I did like the opening rear door though.

Few months back was looking at  new motorhomes and one of the best compact ones we saw was a Benimar 481, under 6 metres with an electric drop down bed over the lounge area. Not a bad price either

while non-fixed bed vans give larger open lounges, they are often short of storage for larger items.

also, does a single traveller need a lounge for 6 or more?

a good compromise on this design is the Pilote G600 range....one with open lounge and one with French bed and pretty good storage and one with transverse bed and a garage.

all just under 6m.

all Pilotes come in G or P versions.

P means Pacific and are built on a normal Fiat chassis cab, as in many coachbuilts..

the 'G' version in Pilote speak means Galaxy....its their A class style which will give a far roomier cab, and in the case of the G600L (lounge version) the drop down bed is fwd and over the dash rather than in the middle of the van.

The 135, IIRC has facing settees and no garage but is otherwise identical to mine.
