Which part of Scotland are you visiting? It’s a big place.

There aren't a lot of CLs in Scotland so you won’t have a great deal of choice. If you don’t want to use full blown club sites, why not consider some of the privately owned sites which will increase your options considerably.

TW is the Scotland expert - he goes north from Cornwall whereas we go south. But I agree with him that you need to use a range of resources - Pitchup, Search of Sites, UKcampsite..co.uk , plus good old Google, as well as relying entirely on CLs.

I’m not sure about 'expert', Euro, but thankyou. When it comes to CLs, Nellie has a Master's degree in the subject. Once we have an idea of area, it’ll be easier to give advice.

A nice CL about 5 miles West from Berwick upon Tweed is Foulden Hagg. Has two pitching areas, fabulous views, lots to see and do in area. Another one, slightly further North, and good for North Berwick, Edinburgh is East Fortune Farm. You can hop on train into Edinburgh close by, or head South on train of course.

Keil Crofts CL, just north of Benderloch is a good choice for the Oban area.

Gartfairn cl at Drymen, has amazing views towards Loch Lomond.

South Port O'Spittal in the Stranraer area of Dumfries and Galloway is one of our faves.

Landis Farm cl near Dumfries is beautiful.

Ashieburn House at Ancrum near Jedburgh is very pretty and has a lovely small woodland walk attached.

Bioran Dubh cl near Appin is small but has a stunning location. However, even better is a private site (7 pitches) called Creagan Station Tourers right on banks of Loch: we were supposed to be going in June😢

I have left an odd few out which I personally wouldn't recommend unless the OP is an ardent CL fan and the odd one or two that we've not used yet.wink

I can though recommend Beecraigs County Park site at Linlithgow. If you go mid week out of high season it's as cheap and as quiet as many CL's.

Wasn't there one you used overlooking the Pentland Firth, Nellie, near the Castle of Mey?

NTH says that Keil Crofts has closed. There were two in this months magazine that I have visited that have also closed. Perhaps I should stop visiting CLs or change my aftershave or something.

It had changed it's name from Viewfirth to The Crofters Snug. Would certainly recommend it if just for the view alone.

Don't you just love it when a member asks for help and then doesn't respond to the replies supplied.yell

Well, thank you from me Nellie for answering my thread and for all the information here. BTW probably the best CL in D&G near Garlieston, has to be Sorbie School (but keep that to yourself 😉)

No problem, jonray, glad to be of some help. Have looked at Sorbie School but it's way above what we are willing to pay on a site.

Glad to see many of our favourite sites on Nellie's list. Glad that we can enjoy the memories during this difficult period and look forward to when we can start rolling again. Our van is kept at the back door and is ready to move whenever, although until then we take our coffee (or something stronger) out to the van and dream we are on one of our favourite sites.

On a different note I was browsing CL's in Scotland earlier and noticed that Monturpie at Upper Largo is not shown on the website. Have I missed an announcement in the magazine ?

    Stay safe everyone

papa5f, I would not be surprised if Monturpie has left the club as they were changing the pitching area last year. I would suggest that if you do wish to visit in the future just give them a call on the number in the old SD.

It's been 6 weeks since the OP surely by now they will have had time to investigate the sites suggested, and it would be very nice, and polite, to inform us of what they have decided and acknowledge the help given, wouldn't it? Perhaps it's just another sign of the times in that certain people have forgotten how to say "Thank you"!!

You have learned,as I did a few months ago, that very few people on this forum will express their thanks,(or even acknowledge) the help that is freely given in answer to their query which is the reason I no longer offer any assistance or advice!!

Sorbie is a very peaceful community and is surrounded by natural beauty,The Pheasant is highly recommended not just for fine food but for it,s friendly greeting by owner and staff .I dont use the cl as I am a local but the description would probably justify the site feesmile

Yes they should have had the decency to say thank you so let me say it for them as we shall now have some places to look into on our hopeful month long trip exploring the Highlands and Islands on my retirement at the end of August or as soon as we are allowed.Thank You

For all those that contributed I'll say thanks for your response, steve55. It good to see that there are at least some out there with manners.smile Hope that we are all able to get away soon, but I can't see it happening until towards the end of the summer, unfortunately.
