Corona Virus Concerns

Personally we don't. Have only used them twice since lock down, both times for permitted shopping. However, as I put above we are very lucky and have lots of countryside walking on our doorstep. I am certainly not going to criticise someone who drives for 10 minutes to get to an area where they can walk / exercise freely, rather than walk around the streets.

We're walking roughly one and a half hours a day as we've always done. We're keeping well away from built up areas and if we meet other walkers we'll cross the road or they will. Cyclists will mostly swerve to maintain the 2m distance and most will say "good morning" . In the six weeks since this started I've not seen many groups gathering and if we stop to chat to other walkers we'll be on on side of the road and they'll be on the other.
I've only used the car for the weekly shop but I must admit I'm tempted to take it for a longer run to prevent the diesel particulate filter from glogging up and recharge the battery. If I do I'll be keeping an eye out for the old bill.😉

Hmm, his jockey wheel won’t last long 😂

Anyone carrying a mobile phone has for years been able to be traced to a location. The police use the triangulation method all the time.
As far as I’m aware you can’t be forced to download the proposed ap and of course, if you choose, you don’t need to switch your phone on

+1👍🏻, I love the whole location servs thing, W3W is a fine example👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Presumably then you either........
Live close enough to be able to walk or cycle somewhere for all your food shopping
Were able to shop on line and get a delivery slot
Have someone who does your shopping for you
Not everyone is so fortunate!

It works on Bluetooth to connect to adjacent phones. I suppose it might need a tiny amount of data to upload the results.

I believe it has to upload the Bluetooth contacts to the server periodically. However, I doubt it needs a constant 4G signal, otherwise it wouldn't work in no signal areas. However, as DK says it would only be a small amount of data. When home your phone will lock onto the house network, so any communication with the app can use that. Personally I think the benifits would make it worth paying for a bit more data if required.

If its just bluetooth it will never be a useful tool.
how can it transmit or receive the information, the app will need data transmission, which, as others have posted, I never have turned on.
As much as I would like to stay safe and comply with the app usage for the benefit and safety of all, I am concerned with the security of this app considering it will be transmitting your location, where you've been and potentially who you have met.

I'm puzzled by its use off bluetooth which has a range of 30 feet for more give or take. That is going to generate a lot of contacts that may well have minimal risk.

I think it's crystal clear, isn't it, that it still means within ones local area? For example, within 10 minutes driving I could get to a dozen villages and walk from any one of them for hours. But luckily I can do the same within 5 minutes walk from home, so that's what I do.
I can't begin to imagine how difficult this lockdown is for folk who live in city centres with little chance of meaningful "escape".

correct the rules are not the same for Wales.

I'm not sure the good folk of Glastonbury are exactly typical of town/city folk, F, and certainly not any participants in that protest. But never let the facts get in the way of a prejudiced view, eh?
Edit - just seen a report on local news - the protesters aren't residents of Glastonbury itself and there is considerable anger amongstvresident about the protesters (one of whom is Jeremy Corbyn's brother. )

I'm not sure what you're trying to ague for?
If you tried to do as you suggest you would be stopped by the Police have people have been, and rightly so. It is not a reasonable excuse to be out.
You (one) cannot use the idea of driving to the lakes for example for two hours then doing a five hour walk. It is precisely that sort of attitude that could risk all of us losing the precious local exercise that we have atm.
What are you trying to achieve? the vast majority are applying common sense and doing their exercise from home or perhaps a very short drive to achieve that, why not do the same?

- Yes we are within walking distance of a number of shops but online shopping is easy to get if you try at the right time.
- We log onto Asda every week on Thursday at 10. 00 pm when they release the slots and are always able to book a slot for two weeks ahead. It is just like being a Club member booking a site in advance. Obviously if you want a slot in the next few days you will be unsuccessful

So basically then the following statement is a load of rubbish.
also: It is lawful to drive for exercise... driving to countryside and walking (where far more
time is spent walking than drivingLast week I did 2, 59 mile journeys making a total of 118 miles each each time. Never stopped once.

I am not trying to achieve anything. Just saying what could be done based on the statement.
As for my walks I can and do plenty from my front door.
So please don’t lecture me on what I can and cant do.
