Take the back ache out of pegging down
Finding pegging out very hard work, I decided to design a peg driver I could use standing up. Today I made one that works fine,
It requires hard ground pegs - like big nails with tough plastic mouldings to form the rope hooks. It is fairly easy to push the mouldings down to the sharp end, leaving the metal shaft and flat top exposed.
I found a length of old tent frame tube about 1 metre long and a slightly longer metal rod about 9mm thick. ( I have a considerable collection of "useful" junk.)
With the bottom of the tube over the tent peg in the desired position for pegging, I was able to insert the rod into the tube and, standing upright, drive the peg home with a hammer. (I always take a claw hammer because it is by far the best tool for pulling pegs out.)
I've ordered some suitable aluminium tube to make some good prototypes, so if anyone would like to try one free, just let me know via the forum. We old caravanners have to stick together.
