Hi all we have a long weekend off, were due to attend a rally which due to this weather has been cancelled.Would still like to get away, and due to its location considering the Marazion site.I know it's grass pitches, and no loo block.Question is wondering how wet the pitches could be?Has anyone stayed here when the weather has been bad?We know that Treamble also opens this Friday, but really wanted to be around Marazion/Penzance area.Thanks.

Marazion can suffer from mud in bad weather. Godrevy is also all grass but is quicker draining.

I've not checked whether Marazion and Godrevy are open yet.

Thanks, marazion is definitely open not sure about godrevy. But godrevy is less than 10 mins from home so tend not to use it.Our rally was at dove meadows marazion, with Cornwall bbc, part of other club. The area around is one we like but tend not to just drive to so like spending a few days that way, then visit places like st just mousehole etc.Torn as was really hoping to get away,as I'm using my last bit of 2019 leave at work.Don't really relish muddy dogs or it in the van though.😟

May consider a cl  other side of Heston that's got grandstanding, but obviously not so close to the beach.

Give it a day or two for the next rain to go through then phone the wardens at Marazion and ask how the pitches look.

However if that fails then as well as CLs there are lots of independent sites in the area which are already open and do have hard standing pitches - so use the filters with the search facility on UKCampsite.co.uk to identify them.

Agree with Tinny, if it’s been wet, you would need to select your pitch at Marazion carefully. Most of the lovely CLs around there are grass as well. But, if you like this area, and don’t mind paying a bit more, you could try Wayfarers, which is about a mile from Marazion Site. It is same distance from beaches, and Marazion itself, some decent pubs and chippies close by.😁

When I read the thread title, I thought CAMC had gone all Greek on us or at the very least a free chocolate bar with every pitch night booked.

This thread seems beset with spellchecker virus

unless the club has a site called Marathon and vans sited on Grandstands at Heston services (on the M4 ?)   my guess is Marazion, Hardstandings and Helston ?

On the ground condition question I'd say it's very poor in the SW just now, we're on sandy soil but it's soggy underfoot, squelching is a better word! We've had holidays in the past at St Agnes early in the season, but they've also been cancelled due to ground conditions. If the OP can find a site with good hardstandings so much the better! smile

Thanks all,I have in fact driven over to look at marazion(not marathon)as my stupid kindle wrote. It was a hive of activity ,with the wardens settling the site up.It all looked nice,I didn't go in as it isn't open till Friday. However the roads and surrounding fields woods etc are as I suspected water logged. So sadly the van won't be leaving the drive. As brue pointed out correctly, the s.w.particularly west Cornwall is waterlogged.Usually we have been out with the other rally group at least 4 weekends by now.My daughter and I have horses, and believe me I have seen horrific mud in our fields.Definitely will give marazion a go when hopefully we get a dry spell.

How about a hard standing pitch at Globe Vale ?  just inland from beaches at  Porthtowan and Portreath.

I don’t think they allow much, actually. When I last checked a few years back it was no dogs, no children, no twin axles. Really welcoming!😝

I think you’re wise to stay put at the moment, linw, but Marazion is great in good weather with plenty of dog walking across the road.

Sorry, I didn’t look in detail at the Site. We last (and only) stayed at Wayfarers some 36 years ago, with a dog, but no doubt it’s a different Site nowadays.

No lol,but lovely site, with the other club we do the f.o.l.there.Think we have probably decided to stay home, given that everywhere is so wet.We have quite a few rally weekends coming up,next is in 2 weeks so hopefully we may have more settled weather. There are lots of sites open from this weekend, and some crackling c.l.s we are lucky living down here we are in Redruth.

There's Trevalgan (towards Zennor) near St Ives, wrong coast but it has some hardstandings? Just in case you decide to go away, it's on the coast path. smile

We spent a lot of time on that site before we moved closer. It was our weekend bolt hole and I remember the annual fol meets. We're near St Austell now.

Try Kestle farm CL just up the road from the Marazion site, it says grass, but I’m sure it is on shale as it is an old mining area, so well drained and worth a call.

Also Dove Meadows in Marazion itself will probably be fine and well drained.

Or, for something completely different Heligan Woods...hardstanding, nowhere near Marazion, but probably cheaper at the moment than the club Marazion site and more sheltered too. Plus walks and the gardens.

Dogbluwater hi it was Dove that we should have been  going to.The Cornwall Area bcc, part of the other club was to have a 5 day rally. We go every year and love it,due to its closeness to the beach, and village.Unfortunately the site messaged the stewards to say that they couldn't allow us to attend as the whole site is waterlogged. We have been going there for the last 5 years and sadly the last 2 it's got wetter, and wetter.Don't forget the nature reserve is next door, and the amount of rain we've had has made the whole area flooded.Yes heligan woods is lovely too,I think that we are now just going to stay home .We had very heavy rain last night, and it's very windy. We are lucky to live down here and have lots of sites to choose from,my husband has a bad back so we like to go somewhere with a bit of flat walks, hence marazion. He can walk along the path that's on top of the beach,or short walk on sand.We used to use treamble a lot,but it's too hilly now.So think may just try and get the caravan sorted, give it clean if we get some dry weather.
