These day, I have to admit, I very rarely use the site handbook - I usually access site information on line via the website or the app.  However, I still prefer a physical copy of the magazine - however quickly I scan through it.  I have the magazine app on the phone, but rarely use it.  When the mag drops through the front door, it prompts me to scan through and read straight away.  Then I pass it on to my wife who then adds it to the recycling when she has had a look.

You get a bit more out of the online magazine with the links provided and I like the way you can search it. I like to search on "news" then it doesn't matter if I don't read anything else. It is easy to read on a desk top with the advantage you can enlarge the print!

It is also easy to find touring articles using the Club search. Try searching for "Touring Scotland"

There are plenty of PAYG providers. We used to use EE but I now use asda sim which utilises EE network but is significantly cheaper. Like Davis we use mobile phones very little. Hardly more than 4 or 5 times during the 8 months that we are not touring. For the mifi We use EE data sim preloaded with 24gb.

Certainly the larger providers want you to take a contract ..... in my case I would be paying for more than I could use for most of the year with insufficient data when I did want it whilst away.

I'm on giffgaff pyg now, we both use it. Our local internet hasn't been working through this weekend so using data has been the only way to stay connected.

DD Giff Gaff is a form of pay as you go in that you select the service you want for one month which you can alter at the month's expirery or elect to continue or even abandone. If you run out of data or minutes you can top up at any time. Take a look at their >web site<

I elected for £10 per month which is probably excessive for when I am at home but need when I am away. I think the lowest tariff is £6. You get reports, an App and reminders about date expirery.

Wife is on Three Mobile pay as you go and that does not expire.

I have been with Virgin for donkey years now. Since I have had a Smart Phone I have a monthly contract for which I pay about £11 a month but that does include 4GB of data which I use to tether my laptop as an internet connection, it's usually far faster than Club wifi. There are not many places where I have been unable to get  a 4G signal but I do tend to stay on sites near to habitation rather than in the countryside. I don't know if it still the same but Virgin used to do a system where you paid monthly but only for the calls, texts and data that you actually used. So some months the bill was literally pennies but other times a lot more. This was before the pan European cheaper calls and data came in.

I pay the same as you, at the moment due to a local internet fault I'll be using up quite a bit of the allowance,  the same as I do if travelling.

Pays to check Virgin’s tariffs when you are due to renew, they often have some excellent deals. Usually a lot of data, which is great for tethering.

Cannot get TV where I am at the moment but Giff Gaff is streaming TV onto my tablet without any problems using my phone as a hot spot. Data is being used at about 1Gb per hour viewing. The App tells me we have used nearly 2Gbs with 4Gbs left until next renewal on 7th March unless I top up.

PD, no idea what you are watching, but unless you want to watch TV live, you can usually download programmes from main channels when you have a connection to watch later. I usually do this for Mum if we are away without WiFi, before we set off. I think I might have done it with Now TV as well, and certainly with iTunes stuff. Needs a lot of memory on device of course, but you just delete and free up later.

We don’t watch much TV, but watching it live eats into tethering data. OH usually uses most of his data on MOTD!🙄 I keep suggesting a pub if football is that urgent😁

One of the best things about technology is being able to check weather conditions with a greater degree of accuracy. We use our weather app a lot, not always spot on, but generally pretty reliable. Useful for gauging where to head off to a short notice. If it’s raining in one place, we head off somewhere else!😁

I think the club could take a lead on this and offer a digital only membership like the C&CC for those who want it.  No magazine or handbook sent out, could even do away with the membership card and have that in the app.  Saves cash for the club, cheaper for members and saves the planet a bit.  Those who want to continue with the magazine/books etc can do so and pay for the privilege.

I don't watch much TV TTDA. Quiet happy to watch catch up when at home if desparate. Its the other half that is the addict.

Well after three days I think we all have our local internet restored, there are limits to what you can do with a phone and how much data gets used in the process. So I'm happy sticking with a mix of high tech and low tech! smile

With lockdown I reduced my charge to £6 per month. I didn't want to cancel it altogether because it is cheaper to make calls on my mobile than the landline. Just as well I kept it because my phone over the landline went faulty and it took two weeks and two visits by engineers to restore a line fault.
