Excessive price rise

I just went to book at Sandringham club site but was taken aback at the price increase since last I booked, it seemed to have doubled in two years, I thought by joining the CAMC I would be saving some cash on a club site, this site is a very good and pleasant place to be, but, I have been to other sites as pleasant whilst being a member of the camping and caravanning club with more reasonable costs, admittedly I pick on this one as its/was a favourite of ours, I'm hoping that looking around other CAMC club sites it is not so unappealing price wise.

Dose anyone else feel that there is too much increase in these places, sort of like taking advantage.

I think you probably meant to post this on the forum. Perhaps a mod will move it for you.

Incidentally, you do save money in many ways by being a member, not least you save £12 per night on pitch fees.👍🏻

It would be useful if you gave some comparison figures. We returned to Sandringham at the end of October last year having previously been there in 2008. In mid April 2008 (not Easter) it cost £17.10 a night. At the end of October 2019 the cost per night was £21.90. I would have thought that the time periods I used would be similar prices so it seems in the scheme of thing it is not a massive increase over that period. Just because the rate of inflation has been historically low over that period the cost to the Club of running the site, particularly in terms of Minimum Wage increases and energy costs does add pressure on point of sale prices. The Accounts don't seem to suggest the Club is making a massive profit out of Club sites, and of course, any profit made is ploughed back into Club sites for the benefit of all members.

Have you checked the dates are like for like? Peak periods often move from one year to the next for example if over Easter. I haven't noticed such a dramatic increase for this year from our last year's stay and indeed the time before that.

As suggested, I don't think you are looking at like for like. I have just had a look and over the last two years peak prices have increased by 4% for pitch plus 2 adults, but only 2% for 2 adults and 2 kids.

What do I do if I find Waitrose expensive?

    a) Write to a forum?  b) Shop elsewhere?  c) enjoy what they offer?

I am sure the statistics must be right that Waitrose is more expensive but in December 2018 I completed an on line order for my Christmas food shop with Waitrose which amounted to £90. The next day I received a very good money off voucher from Sainsbury so decided to swop over anything that was cheaper at Sainsbury on line. Nothing at all was cheaper; lots of things were the same price but nothing was cheaper. I still shop at Waitrose but also Aldi.

My daughter got a pt job while studying in Leeds at Waitrose. It was the first time I had ever been in one. While there were certainly more expensive things on offer these were for the higher 'quality' products but for many common/branded items prices were the same as elsewhere.

our local waitrose has plenty of 3 for £10 items in thr meat/meals section...

cant remember ever getting a 4 nights for the price of 3, or 7 for 6 at the club, although other competitors offer these at different times of the year.

But then sting those who have to go at peak times to claw back their losses

But Waitrose as  both the major  club's do not need to

We shop around. We save lots of money. Likewise, it’s how we tour!😁

Waitrose do have offers and money off vouchers, so they must feel the need at times.

We like Waitrose, and M&S.....but only shop there if we have a money off voucher, and only then buy the 3 for £10 and other special offers.

Otherwise we shop mainly at Lidl and Aldi, sometimes Tesco, Asda, and Morrisons, rarely Sainsbury's.

We like CAMC sites, but only use them in low season, and then only when under £20 per night.

We also like CCC sites, but only use them when we get the over 60 discount, or similar.

Otherwise we will mainly use good CLs, where we pay between £10 and £17, and often find serviced pitches.

Lower prices for us mean more treats and nights away.

Unlike JVB we cannot afford to patronise CAMC and Waitrose exclusively......though I seem to remember you often shop at Lidl JVB?

We are the same with supermarkets, we have no real brand loyalty. I like Waitrose but as they have not sent us any money off vouchers lately (others have) we have not visited for a while.

Campsites are however a different matter. Of the 16 sites on our planned May tour, only half are CAMC. However, they all would be if the CAMC had sites in the right place. (For right I mean where I want to visit😂)

Often get those offers from Morris Leisure but they are of  very little interest to me personally. They are presently offering 3 Nights for the Price of 2 from 4th January until 2nd April.

Likewise K. We like Booth’s supermarkets when there is one in the area. There’s a frisson of excitement coming out with a (small) bag of tasty delights, then that air of danger when you know that same £50 could have fed you for a week at Aldi! Probably just as tasty, and with change to spare!

Works with Club Sites as well. We decided on a short break in Bridlington area last year. Looked at Club Site (how much😱?) then decided on a much nicer private site, similar very nice facilities, at half the price. Closer to what we intended visiting as well.

I support the local village shop. Cost has no bearing, as with any site if its got what I want.

Importance of 3 for £10, 4 for 3, 7 for 6, under £20, over 60 discount. Wow some poverty stricken leisure vehicle owners out there.

Our nearest Waitrose is reasonably sized, quite new, it's a nice place to shop too.  Just recently a very large new Aldi opened directly opposite (site vacated by Homebase), so that makes shopping very convenient.

The M&S food store near DD has Aldi right next door, again very convenient.  They all seem to rub along together.  What we need now is a bigger Lidl, the one very close to us is very small.

Rarely use Sainsbury's as it is not so convenient, but do notice it is quite expensive on most things, very similar to Waitrose.  In 2018 we ordered a few items of Christmas food there, we were very disappointed with the turkey breast joint, so would not order there again.

I wanted to go shopping at our local Waitrose last year but Mrs M said that the Aldi in Truro (200 miles away) was cheaper.

What should I have done? laughing

We don't visit camping sites because they are cheap we visit because they are in a place we want to be. Some holiday venues are so exclusive price wise that there's the possibility of being sucked into the exclusivity rather than the place visited. We're just looking for a reasonable place to park up, we want it to be up to a certain standard. I'm hoping CAMC will concentrate on keeping facilities etc up to scratch because poor conditions will put me off. Therefore I'm prepared to absorb the price rises at present if I think CAMC is investing in the upkeep of sites.
