Weather permitting, we're due to travel up to Scotland for the festiive season. Whilst there we'll be walking the hound and always try and seek out forest trails. On reading about Galloway Forest and it's acclaimed dark skies, it would make sense, if conditions allow, to venture into one of the recommended spots to take in the views. (I'm no Patrick Moore btw)

Has anyone any recommendations or tips? Thank you and Seasons Greetings!

Take a look at Galloway Forest Park Site map. If you can get into forest and park up in a clearing, well away from any other lighting you should get some great spots on a clear night. We stayed at Lidalia Site years ago, and I recall there are car parks not far away. It’s a sparsely populated area, so good for night skies. Hope you get some clear nights!

There are plenty of parking areas in the forest especially near the wild goat park and clatteringshaws. (between Newton Stuart and New Galloway)Unfortunately you will be lucky to get clear nights unless it is frosty!
