Crystal Palace Site - Any Tips?
For the first time in over 30 years we have decided to go to London for a week staying at the Crystal Palace site. Once there we are not planning to use the car much, if at all. Has anyone any tips about the site or the best general route to get there. We'll be travelling down the M1 from Derbyshire.

Great site. I always approach from the SW (M4, A4) so my route is probably no good to you? I’ve also approached from M25 (J8 I think) which is straightforward. At some point you’ll probably end up using the South Circular which is easy enough to navigate, but don’t let sat nav take you too far towards central London as you might encounter width restrictions. I usually cross the river at Kew or Hammersmith Bridge. Also, select ‘no tolls’ option as there is such a road near Dulwich College and it’s not necessary to use it.
Once there you can forget your car, no 3 bus runs from nearby stop to central London every few minutes 24/7. Short walk across the adjacent Crystal Palace Park will take you to local railway station. Lots of diverse pubs/shops/restaurants within walking distance. Bus station nearby also.
One of my favourite sites, surprisingly leafy and quiet (apart from some aircraft noise during daytime).

We visited this site the other week travelling down from West Yorkshire in a motorhome towing a small car. I used the A1 onto M25 then Blackwall tunnel. It was a bit hairy in parts. The wardens advised using the Dartford tunnel (cost me £2.50) and we returned that way, seemed easier roads, if a bit further.

Didn't realise they had foxes at Crystal Palace as well as Abbey Wood. Someone has just posted a video online on the CAMC Members Chat Group on Facebook showing how tame they are! I imagine tame that they will take food from you rather than getting any closer to them!
