I have just read the latest review of the Moreton in Marsh site and having just visited the Cherry Hinton site I have had similar thoughts. It is a while since I last used Cherry Hinton but it has had an upgrade in the recent past, mainly on the facility block and motorhome service point although the latter still has not had a grid fitted. The pitching is still dreadful with most just being small patches of hard standing surrounded by muddy grass. Granted there are some hard standings which can be accessed without crossing or stepping onto muddy sections, but surely the Club can do better than this on this open all year busy site?

If this site is to be suitable in for all weathers more needs to be done to upgrade pitches to a decent level of hard standing.

I stopped using Moreton in Marsh some years ago. There are a few CMC sites that I will use instead.

I was happy enough with the Cherry Hinton pitches but have not been there since July 2016 and will not revisit as I find the exit poor now that my right eye does not work. When next in that area I may well use CCC site just up the road aways

I prefer to C&CC Cambridge site, unfortunately it is closed in the winter months.

when we cisited Cambridge we used the C&CC site and it was really good, recntly updated roads and pitches...

we called in at Cherry Hinton on the bikes, for reference....hmmm, not good, cold, damp, dark feeling site that would never get us there.

We were at Cherry Hinton earlier in the year and as I understand it the planned upgrade has not yet happened. I got the impression from the wardens that they wanted to create a new entrance. Funnily enough we have used both the CMC and the C&CC sites this year. The CMC site is slightly better for public transport and at least there is a pub within easy walking distance. I agree the C&CC site is nice and more open and a real plus you can book a hardstanding pitch!

During the fifteen years we've been CAMC members the Moreton in Marsh site has been redeveloped, I can remember when only half the site was available when the western side was re-developed. That area has always had slightly more spacious pitches and the eastern side nearer to the town has always been a tight fit and susceptible to water on some pitches (the site is "in the marsh" so to speak! wink) In fact I can remember a very bad flood a few years ago which affected the adjoining road. I sometimes wonder about sites and refurbishments and I've seen some very poor quality facilities on other sites. I've not been to Moreton in the last few years and I can't imagine it's changed that much, it's often a very busy site with tightly packed pitches. Wear and tear no doubt but I've seen worse.

Do you mean make it like a car park, so that you don't have to walk on the grass? You don't ever have to walk on the grass.

We go there occasionally and see the damaged grass edges, but this mess is not the fault of the club. There is no excuse for it. We have actually watched it being done (at M in M and other sites in and outside the club) for no reason what ever. Why? It makes me a bit cross because the grass belongs to all members, but when Mr Minority Molehusband spoils it, the wardens have to repair the damage.

No it need not look like a car park. For a site open all year you should not have to cross grass to access a patch of hard standing. As you know it hardly gets any sun and there is little to no chance for it to dry out. If I want to paddle mud into my motorhome, I know much cheaper places to stay. I was lucky on my visit and managed to get on one of the better pitches.

There is no way I will stay there when the C&CC is open.

We are not lovers of Cherry Hinton for the reasons mentioned up thread, having to drive or walk across grass to get to your pitch is such a turn off when its just a soggy muddy mess.

A site that we do like but needs an upgrade to its pitches is Old Hartley, same thing drive across grass to park on a gravel patch, the site slopes so on some of the pitches you have to reverse up hill across grass to get to the gravel patch.

I also think that Old Hartley is desperate for an upgrade. It has such a wonderful location but when we were there last the back of the motorhome was virtually resting on the grass!

We have just come back from Bladon Chains which is another site in need of an upgrade. I appreciate that the club are not always free agents in what they do because of lease restrictions and lease lengths.

Tredegar House is another one that needs upgrading. Has been talked about, but to date nothing? An excellent site and very convenient for Newport, Cardiff etc, Just off M4. Open all year, but needs TLC.
