anybody know where the sun has gone?, terrible not seen it for nearly a week now, live in Lee on Solent area and it has been dank for over a week now , caravan looking very sorry for itself, but no way is it going out in this weather. Was going to get my patio heater out flash up the BBQ and have a nice steak to chear things up a little, but watched Meat: a threat to our planet on BBC1 last night, now not so sure.

Did it for me when a scientist in Texas had cut a hole in the side of a cow, inserted a sort of plastic tube so that he could check the contents of its stomach as it munched away on grass, all to do with green house gases, and some vet in the UK who has gone green whacked a chicken over the head with a lump of wood and then wrung its neck, ughhh!!!!, anybody else watch it ?

I wanted to watch it, but ‘I’m A Celebrity...’ was on at the same time, and SWMBO held sway.

"anybody know where the sun hasgone?"

Well, after days of wet, grey, dreary weather, it's made a welcome, if temporary return to Cornwall today. Perranporth beach this morning! smile

I've just watched the Liz Bonin programme on catch up. Food for thought, if you'll pardon the pun. The last bit made a good point about our disconnect on the reality of what is entailed in eating meat. We'd probably all be a bit healthier if we ate less meat. Some of those meat-chomping Texans didn't look the picture of health.

agreed, i worked in Houston for a while and i thought the guys were big then, but they look to have grown.

i thought the bit were the vet guy broke the chickens neck was in very poor taste, what they didnt tell you was that, yes it works ok if you get it right, but you need a strong pair of hands and need to know the technique.

For a while now I’ve tried to cut down on eating meat, mainly for health reasons. It’s been known for a while now that meat production increases the level of greenhouse gas, so it seems sensible to me to lower/cut out eating meat. Trouble is, it tastes so good!

My dad used to keep chickens. I remember him having to get rid of his cock bird, following complaints from the neighbours (crowing). It wasn’t a pretty sight...

We also watched the Liz Bonin programme and found it very informative.

I liked the farmer in the states that has covered his slurry pit and using the power it generates to run the farm and sells the rest. This is the type of thing we need to do.

Hated seeing the vet kill the chicken, yet I grew up with a chicken run at the bottom of the garden and a grandad that could dispatch one swiftly.

We try to have at least one day a week without meat, normally 2 or 3 days. We eat fish a fair bit but even that isn't without problems.

To stay on thread, SUN what sun not sure there is one anymore laughinglaughinglaughing

I watched it and did anyone notice the amount food on that Texan's plate.

If anyone is missing the Sun today I have a Daily Telegraph going spare.

Yes, we are similar, my OH has been in remission from Crohns for many years and meat with the exception of chicken is not good.

when we lived in Aberdeenshire there were a couple of local farms that generated power from slurry but only sufficient to run the farm.

clear skies this morning so fingers crossed we may see some sunlaughing dog outside in his wellies undecided

Probably a function of all that meaningless hot air churned out by politicians at the climate summits mucking up the weather patterns. Mind you, I did get a decent output on my solar panels yesterday and today is looking promising. It will make up for a lacklustre November.

I know it's not officially winter yet but December has brought beautiful bright and frosty weather in Lancashire.

At this time of year in this area (cold frosty) even if we do get the sun it is not long before it goes hazy with all the contrails (pollution)from aircraft that are overhead with Heathrow,Stanstead,Luton and London city airports all within less than 50miles +the other aircraft that are passing over from more distant airports in the uk and Europeyell

Sun is on holiday up here in Yorkshire, doing its best to be a blinding nuisance!😁 It’s so low at the moment, it’s difficult driving at times.

We haven’t eaten meat, including chicken for the last 35 years. I was brought up with smallholdings, allotments, Grandad was a quick chicken killer. It didn’t bother us as children watching fowls being drawn for Sunday dinner. They were well kept, treated with respect and had a decent life before death.

After 4 sunny days in S.Cumbria it's been dull and grey today, although the sun did try to put in a appearance just as it was setting so we got a red sky for a short while.Tomorrow promises to be better, hopefully.
