On another CL thread a poster suggested their favourite 3 CL sites. So, as it's pretty much the end of the main touring season and, for us, the end of our touring days I thought it would be a good idea for those of us who have used a lot of CLs over the years to nominate our own favourites. Just personal likes, nothing on the scale of CL of the Year of course. It's a difficult task to narrow it down to just 3, but here are ours -

1) Drake House Farm, high in the hills above Clitheroe

2) Woodville, just outside Shrewsbury

3) Wortley Hall - a new one to us this year, near Sheffield.

So many other good ones spring to mind - maybe I should have made it a top 10! smile

We have quite a few favourites, and most would not appear on the CLOY list, and I find if difficult to select only 3, so these few could change depending how I feel on the day, and they are not in order of preference, but are all great for dog walking straight from the site.

    1) Priestfield Grange Fm, Old Brampton near Chesterfield

    2) The Old Orchard, Ombersley

    3) Davochfin Farm, Dornoch

Agree with M about making a list of 10.

A few of mine have left the club to set up privately (Fowberry Farm at Bamburgh and Low Hedgeley Farm at Powburn spring to mind) but 3 faves which are still club cls are:

    1. Patterdale Hall-my latest discovery and already planning a return visit.

    2. Wallthwaite,Troutbeck

    3. Swan Farm,  Hawsker

    Choosing just 3 is difficult!!!

No-one else willing to name their top 3? Surely not worried about not being able to get a pitch if they recommend a site? undecided

    😁😁😁😁

    1. A secret location in Cornwall, usually booked up in advance!

    2. Seat House, near Skipton

    3. Ashfield Caravan Site, Lockton

We have a lot more favourites. Sadly a few are now closed. Some are small private sites.

It is by me, we have a favourite CS in Norfolk. In fact we choose it over the CL owned by same family.😁

Yes, we're all talking about the same one - Creake Meadows.

    No. 2 - Hallsdown Farm, N Devon.

    I'm working on No 3.

I don't know about a "top 3". I've got loads that I am perfectly happy with and return to whenever we are in the area. I suppose if I had to choose it would be:

    1. Kahana in Bradfield, Essex

    2. Abbey View in Whitby

    3. College Farm, Alkborough, Lincs.

    Need a top 10 really.

Well, if we're allowing CS's as well:

    1. Thornthorpe CS near Malton

    2. High Breame CL at Flamborough

    3. Deerholme Farm near Thornton Le Dale

We love College Farm as well. Difficult really to pick any three, we have lots of favourites, some we visit every year. Splash Farm at Cromford is another nice one, and we enjoyed the Jervaulx Abbey one when we stayed last year.

Could do with categories...Summer, Winter, seaside, moorland, best for history, hidden gems, etc....

Foulden Hagg, Toynes House. The list grows the more I think. Lovely one up near Tintagel, with a swimming pool, can’t recall name at moment.😁

Well, we've only visited the first of ours more than once. But we've visited enough to fill up a top 10, let alone a top 3! I don't think revisiting the same place several times is necessary just to give some favourites. smile

Very difficult to list only 3 CLs but here goes:

As Cyberyacht we always explore new places so do not return to a CL but my first choice is one we did return to this year as we were struggling to get in anywhere for the Bank Holiday.

    1) Birch Hill Farm, Ellesmere  Without doubt one of the best CLs on the network, lots of space, views, free WIFI and close to a lovely town. If you always require toilets/showers then you will miss out on a cracker at an amazingly low £14.

    2) Hillcroft , Kilgetty nr Tenby.  Great location just off the main road into Tenby but is still very quiet, only 100yds to the bus stop so ideal for DK!  Super toilets and showers. Very well landscaped and one of the friendliest owners there is. £18

    3)  Pwll Preban Rhoscolyn   So many could be placed in third place but if you are touring Anglesey this will definitely fit the bill for the NW corner. Forms one corner of the owners small commercial site but don't let this put you off as they are mainly seasonal. Shared facilities if you need them. Close to a pub once frequented by Wills and Kate and close to the coastline for walking and swimming. £17.

Yes, agree about Hillcroft - it was one of the first CLs we ever visited quite a few years back now. Fabulous site - only downside was that there was little chance to walk direct from the site if I remember correctly, but lots of options within a short drive away. smile

We walked from site to Wisemans Bridge.  Admittedly the first half is along a very quiet road but you then take the public footpath through the campsite, across a field and straight into WB.

My favourite cl used to be Templehall at Coldingham. It's a couple of years since we've been there and looking at the photos online now it seems as though it has changed layout? All the pitches used to face out over a field with views across the sea but it definitely looks different. Has anyone been recently?

I've looked at Foulden Hagg a few times in the past, but we always ended up booking Templehall (or Gallows Law) when we were up that way. Thinking of returning to that area next summer, so interested to hear your thoughts on Foulden Hagg?

Venndown Farmhouse? Agree it's lovely and in my top 3, together with Staggarth, near Bentham and Acre Hill, Bolton by Bowland.

Yes it is indeed Venndown Farm, lovely place.

The Bells, we liked Foulden Hagg. Just on Scottish Border, around 15 minutes drive from Berwick. It’s off a good road, slightly uphill, so it’s very quiet with fabulous views towards Cheviots. There are two pitching areas, one the CL proper, which is all grass, nicely mown and cleared up, pitches in a line. Has hook up, tap and waste and refuse in this area. The second  area is separate, again five pitches with separate basic facilities. We actually opted for this area, as views were better. Grass again, but with our small MH, despite it being wet, we had no issues getting on and off daily. For seeing some of the most interesting parts of Borders and Northumberland, such as Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, Melrose, Eyemouth, St Abbs, Cheviots, North Berwick Etc... we found it perfect. We liked it so much, I booked the lovely holiday cottage there and we took Mum for a fortnight. A great CL if you don’t need showers and loos. Big extensive dog walk as well, but lots of lovely longer walks around, and lots of wildlife. Everything in way of decent shops, supermarkets, petrol in Berwick, plus station if you want to go up to Edinburgh. Will definitely go back. In fact we tried to get cottage again this year, but it was booked for dates we needed.😁

thebells, If you are unable to get on to Fouldon Hags you could try an ex CL close by, Paxton House Caravan Site....still like a slightly large CL..

I realise this is off subject & not the post for this, so sorry if I've offended anyone.

Oh thanks! I didn't realize Paxton House was still open! So many cls leave the club and go it alone that it's hard to keep track! There used to be a CL in the grounds of a pub somewhere up in the Berwick area but I can't remember its name....

I've just been looking at Landis Farm cl (which would also make it into a top 10 of fave cls😊) and they have opened another separate 5 van site they've called 'Criffel View" which has a shared shower with CL. I guess a lot of cls are having to diversify to make money these days.

There’s the site at Chainbridge Honey Farm as well Nellie nearby. Not sure if it’s still a CL, but it’s a nice site, and has the Honey Farm next door......yummy cakes!😁 No idea on prices though.

Been to many over the years and not sure I could pick just 3, however definitely another vote for College Farm at Alkborough.
