no excuse for the above, in both mentioned locations.

i find it easy to stay slow on sites (here and away) by remaining in first gear and ticking over gently round the site...

perhaps perspective of such a slow speed is different in a car as opposed to being in the higher cab of a MH?

either way, not a good thing to see, some numpties about, for sure.

Firstly I agree wholeheartedly with your concern, speeding needs to be stopped, whatever one's views on the limit, it is there and should be kept to.

Having said that I have seen instances where wardens have done something, usually by a notice on the shower block saying offenders will be asked to have their car in the car park (have posted a copy), or actually spoken to one repeat offender when they saw it happen.

offenders will be asked to have their car in the car park

We have been on quite a few sites over there where this is the normal practice for everyone not just speedsters.  Probably not an option here given the size of the majority of the car parks on sites though.

Perhaps a couple of strategically placed stingers automatically operated by a speed gun might solve the problem. wink

In France David, you are allowed obviously to drag your van onto the pitch and unload etc. then you park in the car park so you only drive onto the site once at the start of your stay and once when you leave so cuts down the total movements as when you go out for the day you walk thru the site to the car park.  Most have some pull along carts available to help carry your shopping etc. to the pitch when you come back.

MH's are excluded of course but then motorhomers don't speed do theysealed

Can't say we have ever come across it on any of our trips to France. Is it so they can cut down on the size of the pitch and fit more in?

Not many of any type of LV or solo tend to speed if they are being "observed"wink

Can we please stick to discussing UK Sites and Touring otherwise I'll have to remove posts to keep the thread on track.

    Thanks.

There are sites in UK with the same system and I would not use one for similar reasons

IME, folks sticking to the speed limit (on club sites) are something of a rarity.

It's a long time since I went to any of the Club sites, but at the time I thought they were the safest places on God's earth. Calm, quiet, sedate and peaceful.

Have they changed? Are they now dangerous places to be? How many deaths and injuries are there? Should the Health and Safety Executive be called in ?

Or are they still just the same calm, safe places - despite a few agitated Club members posting on here?

I’m not agitated, quite the opposite. As I said, folks complying to the speed limit are a rarity, in my experience. Would I consider dangerous driving to be widespread? No, not at all. I had to attend hospital yesterday, and noted that the speed limit was 15mph. I always think that speed is relative to the surroundings. I’m not challenging the clubs speed limit, because if it was raised, there will always be those that exceed it, but there have been times went I felt...silly, driving that slow in what was basically an empty field.

The five mile an hour speed limit on sites is as all speed limits for a reason if some members tend to think it not in their "interest"so ignore it for what ever feeble excuse, even if it is on a site with few pitches in use it is their insurance claim that is at risk,as well as the disdain of those that are more in tune with others

    ET

I am as puzzled as you as I rarely see overt displays of speeding on Club sites. Whilst people might not stick to exactly 5 mph I think it unusual to see everybody on site going at excessive speeds. Perhaps the Club should use signs like, recently seen at a local Garden Centre,  this which might make people think?

Speed limits aren’t everything. My grandchildren attend a school that is covered by a 20mph speed limit, I sometimes pick them up. If I can see lots of children running around at the side of the road (on the pavement), I slow right down, as I would consider it dangerous to go any faster/stick to the speed limit. Speed limits are one thing, dangerous driving is another.

In ‘tick-over’ in 1st gear, I’m doing 5mph. I rarely, if ever hear cars with their engines on ‘tick-over’.

It is not too frequent but not uncommon for me to say to OH when a car goes past 'where's the B fire'.

This past year we have used  only 4 CAMC sites and 6 CCC sites (the others were CLs ) , but on virtually every one we noticed that several of the vehicles moving around on site were patently not observing the 5mph speed limit.  The noise as they go over the speed humps is a bit of a giveaway!

Fortunately not many children around as it was school term time.

Exceeding the speed limit anywhere is dangerous ,and any speed limit is the Max speed not a target, and i would think any competent person drives as per the situation at the time and on sites "what part of five mph is not understood"

I think you’ve misunderstood. I’m not advocating speeding. Since we’re all so keen on rules, it’s a pity that some members aren’t so keen on sticking to the rules of this forum. (And no, I don’t mean youwink)

If I’m honest, I didn’t either. I just didn’t want any misunderstanding. As I’m in an honest mood (🙂), I happen to think that the limit is too low, but it’s only my opinion, and I’m fully aware that whatever the limit is, folks will only consider it a baseline. And before anyone jumps in, yes, I observe the limit.

I'm not so perfect & I must've strayed over it as my doors auto lock at around 8 mph and they have done so sometimes .... 😮
