Does anyone out there tow with a Subaru XV?  We are considering all options as most cars are too large for our purposes.  The XV has 4X4 which we want while being the right size whereas the Forester is far too big.  Also the XV weight is spot on for the van we plan to buy.

We had a 53 plate Forester Auto which towed well but the seats were awful and we ached all over after an hour or so.

Check the manufacturers towing capacity, 1400kg I think

my Dad had one but when we looked in to it the dealer said the gearbox (Lineartronic Continuous Variable Transmission) was prone to overheating when towing

If 1400kg is correct it doesn't give you much leeway if you change the van. However good Subaru are my view is ‘no diesel, no tow’. Subaru dealers in some parts of the UK were selling 2 petrol out of every 100 cars sold...

Just throw this into the mix, have a look at the Jeep Cherokee KL ( the new model ) as can pick up at reasonable prices and a fantastic tow vehicle. 2L diesel auto limited.
