A heartfelt public thank you
Got to be done. I was recently taken ill at a Club Site, Bolton Abbey as it happens. Those that know it will be familiar with its lack of any kind of phone signal, or decent WiFi, so OH had to resort to a good old fashioned call box to get an ambulance. The Duty Wardens were wonderful, one came fully armed with Defib, and lots of reassurance,while the other made sure the ambulance found us quickly and sorted out barriers. Just to add to the mayhem, World Cycling Race was due through, so road closures were due in place, but the Wardens gave Paramedics all the details and we were not delayed getting to hospital. At such a stressful time, those Wardens were wonderful, and a credit to the Club and it’s organisation and training.
Thankfully, I was ok, even managed to finish our short break, a touch fragile, but still up for it. I thanked the Warden’s personally, and will be writing to Club HQ to ensure they are thanked from on high, but I just thought I would share this with others who use Club Sites and thank them publicly. It’s good to know that even quite remote sites have a very slick emergency procedure in place. At least I didn’t require the Air Ambulance, they had dealt with a far worse situation than mine, just the week before!

Takethedogalong delighted to read your post especially as you're OK now. Fantastic to know that the wardens were calm and organised to sort things out. Goes to show that the training is warranted. It must have made a very stressful situation slightly better.
So glad you have made a public acknowledgement of their care and efforts. We know the wardens can be subject to a lot of stick! Their's is certainly not a well paid position, and at times must have some very difficult days 😉. It's good to know you'll be praising them to HO and I hope they get the recognition from HO too.
This just reiterates what a great hobby this is, being able to be in remote and beautiful locations but have a friendly face and well rehearsed plan in the event of an emergency.

Bakers2 has said it all really and yes I'm so glad you are OK which is the most important thing.
I've said it many times but the club's wardens are one the most important assets the club has and well done to them as well.

We have twice had help in emergency situations from wardens and they are indeed a breed apart.

Delighted to hear you were given a first class display of the qualities of our Club's Wardens, TDA
. At least you were not expected to travel on the rear seat of a Racing Tandem into the relevant medico's 
!!Seriously, I'm so very pleased that you were cared for as we all would wish to be, and even finished your Break too.

Good to hear that you're OK, TtDA, and great to hear how well the wardens reacted. Despite the bad press they get from some, we've always found them to be helpful and responsive to any situation. I hope they will get some sort of recognition from HQ.

Glad folks have sort of added to the thank you. They do indeed do a great job. It’s rare we have much interaction with Wardens, beyond the usual hello and booking in, occasionally pass the time of day if they are around and can spare the time.
ABM, I would have been far happier on the back of a Racing Tandem. 😂 The back of an ambulance, travelling the wrong way added somewhat to my misery. Glad to say it turned out to be nothing serious, but at the time it was horrendous. I have learned a valuable lesson though now, I doubt I will ever be able to cope with a ferry anywhere. I thought my childhood and occasional adult relapses of severe travel sickness were a thing of the past, but no.........🤢 My inner gyroscope has now been reset thankfully.

I agree with your experience with travelling headfirst in an ambulance,it for me was not a good journey ,and had to have another Journey to A&E last Sat at 0430 ,but when i mentioned to the crew they agreed to let me be travel in one of the chairs (strapped in) which was far better,,glad you are feeling a bit better now,

In my nigh on 30 years of meeting club wardens I honestly cannot remember a bad one. A lazy one, yes. An occasional grumpy one, yes but never one that we would report to the club. It's one of the best adverts the club has.
I am so glad you were well looked after Ttda. Not a nice experience for either you or OH but can't praise your timing. During World Cycling? Poor show, in more ways than one.😃
Sincerely hope you are recovering. I note you've been at Helmsley so assume you are still mobile. Best wishes for a full recovery.

I was already strapped in by the time I realised which way I was facing, not that I was very lucid at that point anyway!😂 All I can recall from journey was Paramedic muttering “deary me” and sticking a cannula into me enroute!
Two hours later, and numerous tests completed, I was fragile but fine. Safe to go out with some tablets to stop a repeat and we continued next day up to Leyburn Site. Been perfectly alright ever since. 😁

Same here first time
they were a bit apprehensive when i asked not to be strapped on "bed" last Satthat is where our NHS is so good ,its the follow ups afterwards that seem let it down especially for those who are not "aware" and will not question why things are being done ,or not being done
Ps site staff are/were required to hold a first aid certificate that is renewed every three years? paid for by the club with relief staff brought in to cover while site staff on the course

Grand post, tda, and very glad that you are feeling so much better now and been able to get away again. Perhaps you could write to the ICU, explaining what happened and could they rerun that race?
