Caravan awning rail leakage repair

hi all, I’ve been towing for years but have a slight problem, I have a 2006 abbey aventura 330 6berth  my awning rail is slightly leaking into the wall top center , I’ve purchased new screws & new plastic cover strip , does anybody know a easy way of fitting new cover strip in Rail that covers the screws,

i think it might be difficult to push & pull the strip through the channel ? , 

Also should I squirt some silicon in screw holes before putting in new screws , 

any advice would be welcome, Pete
