M6 southbound closure - 17th Aug
As we were returning up the northbound M6 from Penrith this lunchtime we noticed what appeared to be a caravan on it's side across the inside two lanes of the southbound carriage way. We had travelled down that way less than a couple of hours before without any problems. There were plenty of police and a couple of fire engines in attendance, and a group of people standing around, and a long tailback of traffic. The only report I could find stated that it was a single vehicle accident, with no details. Hope that there were no major casualties.

Update... It seems that one woman in her 40's died in the accident and it was a Motorhome not a caravan as I previously thought. The police have not revealed where or not she was the driver, but from the glimpse I got as we passed I would think that she was in the passenger seat, as the vehicle was lying on it's nearside.

Thanks Nellie. Very sorry to read this. It's a timely reminder to us all to take care on the roads.
