Hi All

I am just coming back to caravaning after 10 years and the info on here is very useful about choosing new vans, however I am looking at Tow cars.

I think I may be buying the Buccaneer Aruba but will make my mind up at the Caravan Show - its a heavy beast!

So will need a sturdy tow car and Im down to Disco or Q7

I have read that the Q7 Towing pack is not compatible with the Alko Hitch Stabaliser as it crushes the tow ball ring - has anyone had any experience of this?

Cheers

Stuart

Jeep Grand Cherokee my friend. smile. just checked on Towcar.info site, (best site for matching) and the Q7 with that caravan has a 89% match and the Jeep has a 77% match.

There was an issue with the Q7 factory towbar. Search in previous threads. My personal choice would be the Q7 (or its brother the Touareg) but get assurance from the dealer that the towball will be alko compatible, in writing!

I believe the Q7 has a very low noseweight allowance. Check carefully. Most large suv's have at least 120kg, some 140kg. 3 years ago when I was swopping my X5 I checked the various options,  seem to recall that the Q7 had the lowest noseweight. Would have been useless for my t/a van.

We are towing a 1900kg twin axle with a Touareg, excellent towcar.

The Q7 is 140kg noseweight as you would expect given it shares much with the Touareg and Cayenne..... Lornalou, if you drive a Q7 (or come to that a Cayenne or Touareg) you will realise how agricultural the Jeep is by comparison.

Nutsyh, which year Cayenne do you have? Am A bit tempted with a used one as a an upmarket Touareg option.

Agree but have you been in a new jeep? and why pay another £20/30 thou just for a posh name. The jeep also has a better weight ratio for towing. i don't believe in oneupmanship. laughing

    Flatcoat

2016 S diesel. 4.2 v8. 387 bhp. 850nm torque. Fabulous tow car and with the torque is hilariously fast . Even with the van it' s no slouch.

Circa 34/35 mpg when not towing. 22/25 towing.

Very comfortable on long journeys and effortless towing. Even going over the Pyranees it rarely drops below 7th gear(out of 8) hence the good mpg. I tow a Bailey t/a 1800kg.

I've towed with big Mercs and an X5. Nothing to touch the Porker.

     Flatcoat.

Q7 towbar is 140kg only on the latest model, previously (when I was considering) it was only 115kg.
