Whilst you lot are waxing lyrical, it seems to me, from the weather reports, that Yorkshire Day was a washout.

Perfectly plain English🤣 When OH was sent to look after Barnsley Fire Station one shift, he had to have an interpreter........and it’s only 12 miles away! Lots of local dialects as well as the Yorkshire accent. Good fun......

Floods have been bad, but Derbyshire has been hit hard as well. Yesterday was rather nice where we are, mainly warm and sunny.

This is quite personal but many years ago in the mid seventies I was going through a difficult time and was recovering from a sad event. I went on holiday with my now OH. I took a book with me, recommended to our family by a Canadian friend, the book had become all the rage in Canada. It was called "If Only They Could Talk" by a certain fairly unknown gentleman called James Herriot, I can't tell you how much that book lifted my spirits at the time. We were staying in a village just outside Thirsk where James Herriot was practicing as a vet. Every time we went past the surgery I wanted to go in and thank him.

So James Herriot, Thirsk and the Yorkshire Moors hold some good memories for me and of course I've been back many times to enjoy Yorkshire since then. smile

Speaking as a proud Lancastrian I must say that you cannot go to Yorkshire without getting Fat Rascals from Bettys (or Little Rascals for the young-uns). Simply delicious.

Loved the Fat Rascals & our visit to Leeds Armories.  Enjoyed our walks in Yorkshire &. hope to get back there again next year. Some of our memories.

And don't forget that Middlesborough is part of the ceremonial county of Yorkshire! As is Redcar and Cleveland! And let's not forget it!wink
