VAT registered service companies
Hi, my first post.
The company we bought our Elddis from, is insisting we use a VAT registered company for our annual service. Myself & other friends have been using the same company for a few years but, as a sole trader, he does not have the turnover to be VAT registered. All other mobile companies we have contacted are the same.
Do you good people come across the same issue?
Thanks in advance.

I think I would talk to Elddis direct to get their take on it as they will have to sanction any warranty work which requires the regular servicing. If its a new van I expect most of us would, at least initially, use the selling dealer for servicing. Do Elddis have a preferred service agent list?

It seems the Dealer is trying to keep you in their "loop" as any mobile service agent who is registered with any of the caravan service organisations do your service ,but check if they can carry out warranty work ,as if not the dealer may throw their toys out of the pram thats all you want from them

It is a used van. I have now contacted four service companies, who say they do not do the annual servicing for warranty cover so, I can only presume, it is a different type of service to usual.
I will contact Elddis direct for advice, the selling dealing has gone quiet on me.

It may be that if they find a problem or you mention one that is covered by the warranty,it may be difficult for them to obtain parts from the manufacturer,if not a recognised dealer for that make of LV,and dealers also do not get paid the full time needed to carry out warranty work, our dealer will not carry out warranty work on c/vans not supplied by them (Bailey and Coachman)

The word that keeps being used is 'dealer'.
Back in 1995 we bought our first new van and when a fault developed I contacted the supplying dealer some 150 miles away.
When I commented on the distance they pointed out that I could get the work done at a local independent service centre approved by the clubs and most manufacturers.
That is where I go to this day. Their interest is in you you as they have nothing to sell so no travelling 100,s of miles and the money goes into the local economy.

The warranty would normally allow any NCC registered workshop to do the work but do follow the advice from Eldiss to keep you safe.
Given that parts bought by an engineer are included when calculating income for VAT purposes, I find it difficult to see how most can avoid having to be VAT registered, unless working on a cash in hand basis but it is possible.

my mobile svc engineer Approved Workshop, is not and has never been VAT registered, and i never pay cash in hand, normally bank transfer, I would think this is the norm rather than the exception. Ok normally the only parts i pay for are the one shot hub nuts.

The dealer & warranty insurers would not budge on this. I have booked the service with an approved company, can't get a mobile service, so I have to take at least one day off work (our van is kept in secure storage which opens/closes whilst I am at work)
We live & learn, thanks for all the replies.
