Euro Insurance Query
Hi There,
We (the family) are going to be new to caravanning but have come through the trailer tent route so not completely alien to all elements of what we have in-store. Anyway, for better or worse we decided that our first proper trip will be in France and of course want to take out insurance.
We're looking at Towergate & the C&C Club insurance. The second seems supplemental to standard insurance but the former covers both.
Does anyone have experience of these two and any tips for which should shouldn't be considered?
Alternatively, if we've missed another good option - do you have any info on that too?
Also... breakdown cover? Is Mayday the way forward and will that cover the whole deal?
Thanks!

CAMC Red Pennant will give you both personal and motoring cover abroad, as will the CCC equivalent if you are also members there.
Otherwise you will have your usual car insurance, and your usual Caravan insurance which, if with CAMC will cover damage abroad. Some other insurers have cover abroad as an add on option.
Mayday breakdown cover only covers UK, but you should have some UK cover as well, whoever you use for abroad.
Breakdown cover is also offered by some car insurers, but check it will cover the caravan too, most will not.
Your bank may offer personal travel insurance.

To insure a caravan use the well known comparison sites such as Go Compare. Put your details in, ask for cover in Europe as well as UK, and look for policies rated 5star by Defaqto. Then compare the figures with your quotes from Towergate and the Club. Saga was miles in front for me but might not be for you .
I do car insurance via comparison sites in the same way and in my case LV wins - then I can add their own Britannia Breakdown Recovery for car and caravan to it. But again that might not be best for you. Go Compare!
