Dogs and their owners

I know I'm going to get a load of criticism on here but here goes......

My wife doesn't like dogs and I'm neutral but a few questions: -

Why do people think that everyone will like their dog?

Why do 90% of dog owners have massive long leads and let their dogs roam everywhere when they are walking through the site?

Is it acceptable to allow dogs to mess on someone else's pitch, even though the pick most of it up?

How much yapping from a small dog is acceptable?

I'm a very easy going "live and let live" person but I find most dog owners ignore the rules.

Sitting here having just watched a loose dog from next door pitch have a shit on the grass opposite, the owner had walked down to reception. When he came back I told him what had just happened, his dog then came onto my pitch and started licking my leg - NOT what I wanted.

There are more questions than answers , but you would be better contacting H/O with your concerns

Unlucky you, I’m on a cl and no dogs in view.  I guess you are probably going to have to put up with it as I think I read somewhere that about 70% of club members are dog owners.

another 10 minutes and this thread will be closed for consultation

No one would have to put up with ity if dog owning members abided by the rules.

I think CLs must be the way to go - I didn't realise club sites usually have loads of dogs.

Are CLs exclusively for club members or can they be used by anyone?

Makes me wonder if I should bother with club membership.

I’m a dog owner. I fully understand that not everyone likes or wants to be around dogs.

I can’t comment on the statistic you have posted regarding 90% of dogs being on long leads, nor about dogs roaming everywhere when on sites. My response is that you may be slightly exaggerating.

I don’t think it is acceptable to allow a dog to foul anywhere on site even if it is picked up.

I don’t like yapping dogs, and should my dog make a noise it will be swiftly told to shut up. It is well trained and never been allowed to bark excessively. The odd woof at dinner time is perfectly reasonable.

Again, I cannot comment on “all dog owners ignore the rules” another exaggeration, but this owner doesn’t ignore them.

Its not fair to have your holiday spoilt, but the advice given above about telling the Warden of your concerns is more useful than generally whinging on a forum where no one can help.

Hope this clarifies things from one dog owners perspective, and hope things get sorted for you.

    Exclusively for club members.

Obviously there are also commercial sites, many of which prohibit dogs.

Incidentally your thread is in the wrong section as this is for people to discuss there pets. See Dogs & Touring in UK Sites.

Cls are or should be for cc members only, but do not be suprised when quite a few  do not come up to the normal as most know and use club sites for,  the high standards found,

As for theake it you are quite new to not know if CLs are member  only rest of your questions as posted above you need to contact the sites department at  EGH,as i expect this thread to be closed when a few of the for and against dogs posters fire offsurprised

Ps mention the site/sites that you have had this problem on,and  i take it you are a new  member not to know about CLs and who can use themwink

JV, all CLs are ‘normal’. What they aren’t are small clones of Club Sites,  they vary hugely in terms of what they provide, and whether or not the owners allow dogs, children, etc..... The owners determine the behaviour expected, and if something is not right will sort issues out much quicker on the whole than on a Club Site.

Glassblower, there are a lot of lovely CLs that are dog free, many are child free as well. Both a huge bonus to some during school holiday periods when things are a lot busier.

Are they? not according to reviews, and we have stayed on a couple i would say are well below what a member who extensivly  uses club sites, would even be payed to use again ,and no where near "normal?"or

Ps one in South Yorks Nr Doncaster another near Harrogate and also one near St Ives in Cornwall terrible frown but were "cheap?" then it depends on what your take on "normal " standards arewink

You should try a few more, JV. Yes, there are basic 'fields' but there are also CLs which rival club sites for standards.

Incidentally, it’s not a case of dog v anti-dog members kicking off, but more of an opening post full of questions to which the writer is already aware of the answers. Some could perhaps see it as a deliberate attempt to incite argument.

Can’t comment on individual CLs, but in thirty plus years of using dozens of them, only ever been disappointed in one, and that was unexpected road noise. That was our problem, others at the very nice CL were perfectly happy. Nothing the owners could do about it anyway.

PS. Don’t forget that CL owners make their own rules so any dogs on site might not necessarily be required to be tethered.

OK - how's this for a logical answer? We don't, so therefore it can't possibly be "everyone"!;smile

Hi glassthorpe and welcome to Club Together. Discussions on dogs in the past have caused quite a lot of conflict which is why we created one discussion to talk about dogs, which you can see here: Dogs and Touring

However, we do really appreciate member's feedback so if you have concerns about dogs on Club Sites can you please email UKSitesBookingService@camc.com as this will go directly to the relevant team to review.

Many thanks and in the meantime I will close this discussion and request any posts being made are directed to the Dogs and Touring Discussion.
