Advertising not recommending?
I thought Club Together was a good place to recommend places that have given us good service or made our caravan trip more enjoyable. I was frustrated to find my discussion on sailing on the River Fal was edited because I mentioned the name of the boat hire company. Can we not mention suppliers or restaurants or local attractions by name?

Did you know that t is next to r on a qwerty keyboard? Never rely on spell check!

That's a good point you've raised, Tony. I didn't read the review you mentioned, but given the number of - very useful - mentions of pubs, restaurants etc given in reviews I can't see how mentioning a specific tour company would be objected to.
Might I suggest you email Ro to find out exactly why your post was edited in the first place?

I have to say I was amazed at that edit. Is it really any different to people naming a nearby pub as doing good food or even naming a bus company or caravan dealership? I thought the ruling was that we must not advertise for personal gain.
Good advice from Moulesy.

What a ridiculous piece of moderation.
Perhaps we can have an official explanation just so that we members know the rules. Do we now have to be careful when recommending a pub, " It's the building selling beer next to Post Office in High Street".
Maybe we have to be judicious in mentioning specific caravans or motorhomes or take diwn threads such as "Aldi Camping Special". As I said, Ridiculous!

I've reported your post WN, as it too mentions a High Street brand.
Wonder what sort of response it gets?

Perhaps I am wrong but I was under the impression the rules on advertising were to do with the selling of personal items which is not allowed. Obviously if someone, appeared out of the blue, blatantly promoting a company that would not be allowed. However supplying a link, where no personal connection is involved and that link provides useful information to members has in my view has always been allowed since the forum started. I do agree that we are entering a grey area which might mean the offers at Aldi can't be advertise or even a wine offer at Sainsburys!!! It would also bring into question whether we could link to companies providing such services as motorway tags for French motorways! I think we do need some clarification from Rowena.

Or even commercial sites!!

I can't understand the decision, either. I have recently posted twice on here about Curry's having a special offer on Google Chromecast - because I thought it would be of interest to members - and it was relevant to the respective threads.
Afterwards, I expected it to be taken down - but it hasn't - so where is the consistency?
I thought it was tips like this that brought value to the forum.

There has recently been a thread from a newcomer both to the forum and to caravanning in general asking for advice on security devices. Several members have kindly taken the trouble to answer and one of the products mentioned has resulted in this new member deciding to go along with it and purchase said item. This is exactly what the forum should be about. Advice sought, advice given.
If there is to be a blanket ban on these types of discussions then you might as well close the forum down.

Extremely inconsistent as shown above, which makes me think it is one mod's interpretation being applied and not 'official' thinking?
for example I talked about Meindl boots, why is that still there?

Might as well get rid of the Tips for making Caravanning & Touring Cheaper section?
