What constitutes an awning?
On a Blue Peg (dont normally go on them, but it was all that was left when i booked online) I was told, by a caravanning neighbor that I was not allowed to deploy my wind out canopy. Then later told that it had to be wound in at night ?
Bit confused, which is why I usually book a WITH awning pitch. No arguments then.
Is a wind out canopy an 'awning' or not ?
No side panels were in place, just the Canopy, more to keep the rain off than a sun canopy.
Do different sites have different rules concerning this?

A wind out canopy is not an awning and you are permitted to use one on a non-awning pitch providing the 3 metre spacing is maintained. You may, however, be asked to wind it in at night.
This keeps cropping up from time to time so tell your neighbour that he's only partly correct and this is the norm throughout the club sites.

We have been advised that our wind out canopy is fine normally but it is down to local pitch sizes,and to be wound in at night and if not in attendance during the day,which has never been a problem so far and we are a caravan/car, but we always if on a non awning blue peg ask the on site staff

I use strong Cargo straps to hold my canopy down, so often leave it up overnight, unless strong winds are forecast, only a couple of times have I ever had to wind it in in my PJ's.
As I said mine is mainly used as a rain shelter for the Habitation door.

I agree that there's no mention of winding them in at night but it has been mentioned on more than one occasion, hence I said 'maybe' rather than 'must'.

From the quoted wording it would appear that trailer caravans are not permitted to use a wind out canopy in these circumstances. Inclusive or divisive?

It has probably been worded like this as most units with a wind out canopy are motorhomes. While not unknown, it is relatively rare for a caravan to have a wind-out. I know Deleted User User and I have one.... 🙂 I've never used a non(e) awning pitch.

It’s perfectly ok to use a wind out awning with a MH on a none awning pitch as far as I am aware. The only stipulation is that it must be inside the pitch confines to maintain safe spacing, so sometimes on small pitches it won’t get fully wound out. We never leave our wind out up nowadays overnight, been caught out byunexpected winds and OH gets a tad tetchy if I send him out at 2am in next to nothing!🤣
Nav, the Club probably makes the not unreasonable assumption that a caravan will have a tow car with it, that would be taking up the space where a wind out canopy would be deployed. One could of course leave the car in the car park and use a wind out with caravan, but I would ask first, rather than assume. More common sense than divisive.😁
