Hi all, anyone recommend a site near the tunnel. We are travelling from Leicester and need an overnight before boarding next morning.

Regards Bas

Black Horse Farm Club Site, short distance to the tunnel & handy for Sainsburys supermarket to fill up on fuel & food before you cross. As previous poster says there are dedicated ferry/tunnel pitches.

Many people use BHF site for the ferry/tunnel and ignore the rest of the site which is a shame because its a great site apart from just a overnight stop. But there's no better site to use for the tunnel than BHF.

We have used Black Horse Farm quite a lot prior to crossing via Eurotunnel. it's very convenient. Just a heads up, if you are just staying one night to have to pay in advance direct with the site.

We've used this site in the past as well but have sometimes stayed for 2 or 3 nights so that we can visit Canterbury (bus stop outside site) or Dover Castle and walk along the cliffs. Very handy.

Having tried Blackhorse Farm this would always be our first choice.

As with many others, we used to use Black Horse Fm, but I have started to drive from South Yorkshire past Leicester on the M1 to catch the ferry or Eurotunnel and go over to France the same day. This does save a huge amount of time the following day if you've a long way to travel. Just a thought.

Not sure if your outfit is Caravan or Motorhome?

If a site is needed, Black Horse Farm, as already mentioned.

If you are in a Motorhome, then, Canterbury Park and Ride have an "Aire" type area.

However, like @Paul56 above, our usual practice now (even with a 350 mile drive from Tyneside), is to take a late in the day Tunnel Crossing and stay in France. Usually Cite Europe, since we are in a Motorhome.

Cite Europe? Lorries to the left of us, trains to the right of us. Into the valley of noise rode the 600. Doesn't look like a peaceful spot, even for a quick overnight.

I gave up Black Horse Farm many years ago too. I had assumed that the ferry pitches would be "drive through" pitches but in those days they weren't - just the usual car alongside arrangement.  Rehitching  the caravan by torchlight early in the morning, in darkness, in the rain, with a ferry to catch seemed a needless task,  so we also began to do as Paul and Ken have said.

Are the ferry pitches now "drive through"?

Having tried the over night pitches I'd find somewhere else .... 🤐

Personally I would change your tunnel booking to the afternoon you travel to Dover and stay near Calais the first night. Saves a lot of hassle in the morning and you start your second day already sur le continent. We do that and travel much further than you to Dover.
