As we are the proud owners of 3 very energetic four legged friends who need lots of exercise, we always decide on which CL we will be using by not only checking up all of their reviews but also by undertaking a detailed check of all the public footpaths, bridal ways and bye ways in the immediately surrounding area.

This search of ours has been made so very much easier for us since we discovered this excellent and easy to use web site https://footpathmap.co.uk/county/lincolnshire/

The one I have shown above gives Lincolnshire, but whichever county you are going to, simply substitute the county name, then scroll down the every extensive lists until you come to the villages section and then click onto the village you hope to be staying at.

It's easy and it's free! and it covers the entire UK.

Thanks MM, we have always enjoyed walking  and used the local council sites of any area that we are interested in.

Similarly we have used the Ordinance survey site for maps though these can cost £2or £3 per month for Mobile phone downloads, which are extremely useful in so far that 'you' are located on it..

Have also used  GPS Routes, walking maps. plus  Charles close society, mapping.

    Enjoy your walkies.

Interesting and worthwhile. I tend to look at Bing maps and then turn it to OS mapping mode and all footpaths are visible.

Thanks, MillieMaster, it looks good, but have just tried it and it does not cover Scotland. Do you know of a similar one for there?

    MillieMaster good post.

A link to main Home page of FPM (that does not close this post)

It is based on OpenStreetMap "is a map of the world, created by people like you and free to use under an open licence". You can register and mark up edits etc etc!

    https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=6/52.636/0.857

Thanks , R2B. We are at Gatehouse of Fleet the moment and when I tried toe web site last night I chose the "Search by Location" facility, and it came up with this statement....

"Sorry, the location returned by your device is only accurate to 15.8 km which is too high to show your current position as it covers a huge area.

Please use the search form above to find a nearby place".

It then only listed the counties of England & Wales!!

However now I've entered a Scottish town name it does work, but still has not shown the waymarked path we used today at Kirkcudbright. The paths shown are not highlighted as those in England etc.

Thanks for the link – will give it a try.  Usually use OS maps or  streetmap.co.uk 1:25000 level after entering the post code where we are staying or point we intend walking from.
