Accessible dog walking
I'm wondering if anybody can help me? I'm looking for Campsites from which it is possible to use a mobility scooter and safely walk the dog without having to drive off the campsite to get started. This is usually in the form of old railway lines, canal towpaths and other cycle paths.? A five to 10 minute walk from campsite to start of walk is okay so long as there is a pavement or a really quiet road. Walk itself ideally about 5 miles round trip … any location in UK or Ireland. Many thanks!

Yellowcraig, Clumber Park, Exeter Racecourse, Old Hartley. Site that used to be on Club network, The Minnows, has access directly onto canal towpath, it’s actually a Country Park, very lovely.
There are lots of CLs of course. Take a look at Skybarn Farm CL, this has a nice Country Park quite close, and it might be an easy roll to get to it, I can’t quite remember. Easy on a bike......😁

Slinfold, straight onto an old railway track. It is a non-facility site. Beecraigs Country Park, Linlithgow near Edinburgh with plenty of forest roads next to the site. The club's Edinburgh site has access onto the Esplanade which is traffic free.

Not sure ET. We haven’t stayed at Minnows, but used a CL not far away that linked into towpath. Good point though if HS are pebbles. I didn’t mention the CL as it is very basic, small field, tap, EHU, but we love it for its location and access to towpath. The Links if anyone is interested.

I can’t remember the HS but the site has been sold and is no longer an AS so everything could have changed in the last few years.

Oh, thanks for the update, a while since we have been down. We prefer CL, great place to visit Knightshayes Court and Tiverton.

We stopped using it after they opened a special new field and sent us there. It was 'special' alright - it was grass, sloped and got the full benefit of traffic noise from the A361. Then we discovered Cadeside😀.

CCC site at Devizes might be worth investigating. It was a well used tow path passing the locks last time we were there and not sure how long (miles) it is to the Cafe which was open at the time at the top of the locks .

Poolsbrook is a good site for long flat walks.
The Trans Pennine Trail is about 100yds off site and you can walk miles on the old railway track in each direction.
It also follows the Chesterfield Canal which is of great interest to nature watchers with its diverse wildlife.
The Poolsbrook Country Park is okay for shorter walks or just sitting to enjoy life.

Wirral Country Park site is excellent. Out of the gate and 50 yards down a lane (dead end leading to the yacht club) is a gate onto the Wirral Way cycle path. Smooth, wide, good for dogs, bikes and mobility scooters. It can get busy with cyclists at weekend but it’s wide enough fro be safe.
You can ride all way to West Kirky, or the other direction takes you to the country park itself.

Chatsworth has been mentioned - if you require the dog to walk off-lead then there is nowhere to do this at Chatsworth for many miles around the Site.

Tredegar gives level access to the adjoining park but you may need to open gates at certain times of the day.
Edinburgh has lots of parkland over the road (I think there are crossing points but can't remember) and onto the Cramond, Firth of Forth walks.
Warwick Racecourse, good paths and lots of common land adjoining. There is a wide flat path which goes all the way round the course, popular with many users.

Brundcliffe Farm CL is adjacent to the High Peak Trail with miles of off road but good path walking. The trail runs alongside the cl.

Glad you remembered the name of the site Nicola.
Not used the site but visit Parsley Hay Visitors Centre just down the trail. Very good surface for mobility scooters, but the one thing to be aware of is that the trail can get very busy with cyclists so not always the best place for letting the dog off the lead.

Another I just remembered CCC Teversal (useful when travelling M1 - Nr Mansfield) Perhaps you may add any you have come accross/used which may help others with similar parameters. Good Luck and enjoy your time away.
