Help everyone. Touring in Spain with a new Coachman VIP 575. Anyone got any ideas how to get a connector to connect local gas bottles to the regulator? I have a local (Repsol) butane bottle with a gas pipe, but I cannot find a connector to connect it to the regulator in the gas cupboard. Anyone any idea how to solve this problem. We are away for 6 weeks so UK solutions are not going to work...

i have a feeling the gas pipe is UNF thread which isn’t known out here...?

    Hi Mish,

You need a Spanish adaptor to fit the top of your Repsol cylinder, which you will get at any camping shop over there.     You also need an lpg pipe with the brass fittings like your UK one, but the Spanish ones are opposite fitting, I.e. the brass bits male and female are on opposite ends to ours.   You will also get this from a camping shop, but if there is not one handy, try a hardware shop, usually known as the Ferreteria.   Then you can start using very cheap gas!

    Good luck!

just to second Bill's post, you need two elements to get connected to a Spanish cylinder....

firstly, a Jumbo adaptor, which fits the bottle.....easy to get....

BUT your normal uk pigtail will not fit this...

SO, you have two ways to resolve this....

EITHER, get a new pigtail with a Euro nut on the end. this will be a female 21.8mm left hand threaded nut.....this will screw into the Jumbo adaptor and youre good to go. (first photo)

OR, you need to 'change' the existing 'bullet shaped' POL connector on your uk pigtail. this is done by fitting an adaptor which then allows you to connect to the Jumbo. ( second photo)

    Hi

The adaptor you need is called "regulador salida libre" in Spanish which you can buy at most ferreteria  but not all, brought mine two weeks ago at the ferreteria in Benicassim for e14  but  they didn't sell the pigtail which I brought near me in Alicante for e10.

Davids point is valid and you may not be using your heating system, which will add to any metered cost....having said that, large fridge/freezers can use a bit of leccy, too....

ACSI sites allow for an amount of electric as part of the fee, this may well be enough, although we (apparently) went over this despite not seemingly using much....the large f/f apparently responsible...

yes, there's a cost to getting your gas sorted for Spain, but the gas can be used anywhere and you can bring the Spanish bottle back for use here.

my last 11kg Repsol is still doing Stirling service here, it seems to go on forever....

either way, it's whether the usage justifies the bother....

    good luck.

As a guide a large fridge, charging the battery and the occasional boiling of an 800w kettle will use 4Kw per day.

    Afternoon

Some good advice above, but if you're staying on a site for a period of time (not touring) then look on Gaslow Direct website. They have all you need and will post to Spain, my order arrived in three dayslaughing

    Hi All

Just to add to this thread, most Spanish motorhomes/caravans owners don't bother with pigtails they make their own. When I brought my adaptor I was offered a connection kit for 3,95 which consists of both nuts, jubilee clips and inserts and then you need to buy gas pipe to your choice of length.

    Hi Mish

We use Spanish gas all the time, you should be able to get all the connections you need from a ferrreter (hardware shop) there's a good one in Calp.

We also changed to Cepsa bottles as they are lighter a little bit more to fill about a euro.

Repsol also do 6kg bottles but I don't know the cost.

There is a BP garage in Castellon that will let you have a Cepsa bottle with no rental to pay just the price of the gas it's near the port.
