We tend to be a tad similar.

It can takes years, let alone a couple of weeks to truly discover somewhere. That’s partly why we never tire of heading to SW, there’s always somewhere, something new to see and discover. If we were to do NC500 area, we would be looking at seeing and exploring castles and lovely beaches. We’ed probably want to go over to Orkney as well while in area. Certainly wouldn’t want to rush around driving onwards just to complete it every day.

    Us too!!!

We're off on 2 week tour of Scotland in June/July and I've picked a route that includes places we actually want to visit, rather than places we are told to go to by tourist advertising.

We will be heading from Tyne and Wear to just outside Inverness, then across to Skye, then down to Appin, followed by Balmaha then finally to just outside Portpatrick. We are primarily planning our trip around fishing opportunities and Munros that we fancy climbing and then a lovely relaxing few days in Dumfries and Galloway to end our trip.

...and in France, Spain, Germany and Italy they have them, they are the Aires, Stellplazen and Sostas.

it is a bit chicken and eggy....do we need the infrastructure (as above plus Scandanavia) first before we turn on the publicity machine or do we over promote and consider catering for the increase later?

in Europe, I'd say tourism and provision evolved together....the infrastructure to cater for indigenous and visiting MHs has been around a long time....

whether we should play catch up with the infrastructure in Scotland is a moot point, like the chicken and the eggwink

Travelling around UK we find that outside of towns the provision of public toilets is very poor.  When going out for the day (without caravan) we used to take sandwiches to have a picnic, but these days we find it necessary to buy lunch so that we can have the use of a toilet!

Even in places where there are toilets, they are often only open for a limited time.

I don't know that the situation is much better abroad either

It’s not that good in some towns either K. One of the best things about having a small MH, and using it almost daily when away, is that you have your own nice clean loo close by all the time. Brilliant if you are like us and like to get off the beaten track to some remote places. We really miss this when out in car for day. And of course the catering facilities😁
