I wonder why so many discussions on this forum deteriorate into a "slanging match"?

It's good to talk, even better to discussion and friendly debate is most useful. It helps with understanding and provides opportunities to see other perspectives. Your own opinion can be strengthened, modified or even changed in the light of such. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to consider alternatives and respect those of the reasonable others!

After a while, I suspect you will come to learn that some topics will descend into robust defence of everything CAMC by the usual defenders of upholding everything that has ever been the Caravan Club as it was once known. They are generally limited to those more specific topics in a specific subsection of the forum.
Some threads will turn to a cliquey type of banter, that those outwith the clique may interpret as slanging. Others may not become offended on the behalf of someone else when there was no intent to offend, but then everyone is different in the world outwith CT.
Other parts are a mine of information particularly the overseas threads, technical and parts. Some of the trips made by members are excellent and show how people can get a phenomenal amount out of this hobby if so minded.
Some will be drivel to get the post count up and hark back to days of yore when there was an award system for getting most 'likes' or wotever the predecessor was.
As with anything written on the internet, context is key. Not everyone will give thought to the intent of the writer and may make incorrect assumptions that may lead to misunderstanding.
An example of the last para is your username might be seen by some as doing what a seagull does, flies in, dumps and flies off never to be seen again. That is a CT specific example I've not seen on other fora.
Others may spend the time to reply in volume to a perfectly innocent observation recorded as a new post.
The vast majority of the 350k+ members wouldn't have a clue this forum exists and go about their caravanning and motor homing none the wiser.
Roll on the BH and half term to get on site and enjoy the locale and facilities on site, I say

I'm not sure this is strictly correct and the very term 'usual defenders' is unhelpful and derogatory. All folk do is pick and choose which aspects of CAMC best fit their touring needs. Trouble is a few can't and won't consider the needs of others and a few do not wish to consider that possible need for change.

I think you have shown perfectly why threads end up like as Jls described.
Anyone with a viewpoint that favors the way the club does things is labelled and ridiculed as such. As if it is somehow wrong in your eyes to do so?
Why can you not accept their viewpoint without such labels?

I find that people (me) who simply state the club’s standpoint as a matter of information are often perceived as supporting the club.
In any case what is the problem with supporting this club? I find it odder that persistent detractors are still members.

Just in case my username may have created the wrong impression. I am a retired commercial pilot and flying instructor. I still have flights of fancy hence the username - JLS the book written by Richard Bach is my bible and well worth a read by those of like mind. Happy caravanning, motorhoming, whatever takes your flights of fancy.

Once a thread has lost sight of the original subject, and the posts are neither interesting nor informative (to me - others may disagree) - I just ignore it. Like giving up on a book or film if I don't really care about it.
Life's too short. Move on.
