Hello

We are due to pick up our new tourer on the weekend. It's a 2014 bailey pursuit.

We've been given the CRIS certificate and happy with condition (it looks like new!) Just have a query over servicing. It had been serviced right up to 2017 and no issues but because they haven't used it for the past year they've not had the 2018 service. Could there be anything that could have gone wrong with it in a year? It has been plugged in all year at their farm and heat kept on low.

Is there anything I should be cautious of? We've done Cris check online for finance outstanding etc

Thanks in advance

could you say from whom? A dealer or private seller?

Water could have got in despite the heater being on, you could do a damp check yourself if you know how to interpret the readings? I assume you have checked all the equipment?

You could get it inspected and/or serviced before buying?

Yes we were going to get a service but the earliest we can get it done is July! We will ask around to see if anyone can get it in earlier but we ideally wanted it for may hols.

No we don't have a damp meter. So damp can be an issue in even newer models...well 2014?

With Bailey and most other makes it is usually part of the warranty to have an annual service, and a record of it  in the owners manual/service record,if it has the ten year water ingress warranty,

With it being about 5 years old,the other warranty would now have run out,if it has not been used just ensure the brakes are working and not seized on if hand brake has been applied, and take care with the tyres if it has not moved they could be "shot"and will be over 5yrs old,

it may be an idea to have a dealer or mobile service person to give it a service

Although you've left it a bit late and it's a very busy time I'd agree with the suggestion that you try at least to get a mobile engineer to come out to service the van and check it over. You don't say what part of the country you're in but if you google "caravan servicing" you may find someone local to you and it would be money well spent for peace of mind.

Good luck and enjoy touring! smile

Damp can be an issue in vans of any age, even nearly new. I’d suggest getting yourself a damp meter.

The body will not be damp as there is nothing in the Alutec construction that will absorb water,it is possible to still get a "leak" but very rare ,but not unknown, the only wood is the floor when serviced that is the only place a damp meter may be used,as it just a visual check in other areas

If you want to keep the warranty going check what Bailey's requirements are, as some makes require you to register the change.

The Bailey Alutech Unicorn had a lot of damp issues, not sure about the Pursuit. Water ingress along the sides where they join the wooden floor, areas around the front lockers etc. Not having it serviced in 2018 will have invalidated the warranty which, otherwise, should be transferred to yourself.

    Thanks.

We delayed the purchase until a service had been done on it. It's better to be safe than sorry!

It should be done this week and then if all goes well we will have it for next weekend instead.

We've  realised about the warrantee- its such a shame as they had had it done every year since purchase except for last and therefore yes it will invalidate the water ingress warrantee.

Unless they bought the extension its a 6 year warranty,. So only one year lost, so long as it's dry in the service I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty.  But very wise to have a service first,  make sure you get a damp report, our servicer gives us a diagram of the van with meter readings marked in, loads of them.

We have a 2014 Valencia and it was completely dry on the last service.
