Cycle friendly sites

I'm so pleased you enjoyed Clumber Park and the cycling nearby.
We have a section on the website listing a few top sites for cycling which might be helpful in the future. It also includes a link to an interactive map with cycle routes and some Sustrans cycle routes to download.
I hope this helps and have a wonderful time in Yorkshire.

Mmm ... I'm not so sure I'd like to be cycling direct from the site on the busy main road that goes past! I think one would have to take the bikes somewhere away from the site to find a quiet route - when we walked at Burton Agnes I did see that part of our route was on a recognised cycleway which would be a possibility.

Some of it, yes ! I'm noting alll the suggestions, even those away from the area needed for our next trip. Loved the Clumber site, but as mentioned, thefts were rife there, & we were 'instructed' by the warden to use the 2 lock up sheds. Only problem was it was Easter weekend, & when we went to get our bikes next morning there were bikes on top of bikes, & some damage, spokes & paintwork etc. But away from bank holidays the lock ups would be very handy.
Thanks for all the advice so far !

What sort of cycling are you most after OFF? Just tootling around from sites, off roads, something more challenging?

Money saving tip for you Welly’s and Mac, there are two very nice CLs with easy access into Dalby Forest by cycle, meaning you don’t pay. Ashfield Caravan Site is a pretty half mile ride up to cycle path adjacent to main road, couple of hundred yards along this in safety , then tiny lane drops straight into valley and into Forest. Fox and Rabbit Pub CL is also close to this small lane. It’s part of the “Moor To Sea” cycle route. My OH does this ride every time we are up there, great ride into Forest, then you just pick your “route”😁

Hello Old Firefighter,
Here at Skybarn Farm CL we are situated adjacent to Sustrans cycle route 93 into the beautiful city of Lincoln. If you want to explore the city on foot we can lend you a fob for access to secure cycle storage at the train station.
Lincoln has become very cycle friendly in the last few years and offers 4 different free parking places where you can leave your car and cycle into the city.
From Doddington Hall you can cycle route 647 towards Sherwood Forest or route 64 into the City. From Lincoln you can take route 1 all the way to Boston if you feel inclined.
We have an information hut with lots of cycling info and we also have OS maps for visitors to borrow.
Along with all that we offer fully serviced hard standings, free wifi and coded access gates with 24 hour CCTV. We have online booking and lots more information on our website.

We have done some nice cycle rides from Skybarn!

It's fine going down to the forest but it's a heck of a climb back to the site after a long ride!!

Our holiday isn't for a few weeks, but I can assure members that we're grateful for the suggestions so far, & have indeed 'liked' the ones we've viewed. Sad that someone suggests ignorance on our part ?
2 -
Sorry you think we're ignorant, but why insult fellow members? We've 'liked' every post but yours, & appreciate the advice offered by friendly folk. The holiday we're planning is later this month & we're still looking at options.

How would people know who was liking posts unless they spotted it in L/A at the time it occurred?

I for one can't be bothered looking at every ones activity to see if they've responded. A word of thanks to those that bothered to reply to the OP is all that's needed.

After 4 years? 🤔

All kinds really. I'm 74 & often cycle leisurely on my mountain bike when my wife's with me on her electric bike. I also love accompanying my son in law off road. So would welcome advice for all types, thanks.

Thanks, & agree, & that's why we make a point of 'liking' the kind responses as we read them. We also posted a thanks to all the advice we'd received 'so far' on the 21st of May.
Sorry if we've offended anyone ? Looking at a lot of the discussions we notice that there's a lot of very useful friendly interaction, but every so often, a bit of superior sarcasm creeps in.
Lets keep thing friendly

Oh, we do, OF, we do.
Banter between posters can often be mistaken for sarcasm. After all, it’s not real life, it’s a forum.

Love a bit of banter, but wouldn't think of calling other members ignorant ?

Re "Likes". Trouble is, this forum isn't exactly state-of-the-art & needs to be brought out of the 20thC. For example, usually you "like" a post and a little icon appears and when you hover your pointer over it you're told who gave the "like". Not here though.
eg: I quoted the post from OFF but can't edit it to show just the bit I want (or if you can I can't easily work out how.
eg: I wasn't logged in when I was reading a post I wanted to reply to so I had to move away and log-in. Now in most forums you would be taken back to where you were. But not on this one. The steam engine grinds round and I'm take to My Profile. Why would I want to go there?
Where's the Preview your post button?
Re cycling. There's some nice quiet routes from The Howard at Rosedale Abbey, but v hilly in places. Also from Melrose. There's a Scottish Borders Cycling website with routes and the Council have produced vg booklets on both cycling and walking. https://cyclescottishborders.com

GJ, I’ve not seen the icon against likes on any forum I’ve ever used and there have been quite a few.
It is a deliberate move not to allow quoting part of a post as, if you could do that, it would be possible to edit and change the meaning of that post. You can, however, copy and paste part of another post into your own.
There are several anomalies to this site such as the login issue and I’ll not defend CT because it has faults but, ultimately, the choice is entirely ours whether we use the forum as it is or choose another.
There is a thread titled ‘snagging list’ within the How to use CT section and problems can be reported there. It’s true that nothing may be done about them but you can have a gripe in the appropriate place👍🏻

Thanks Geejay, & agree the site isn't the easiest to navigate around. I'm fairly new to it & took me ages to realise that 'Quote' is how you answer posts ! At least I think it is ?
Before moving to Nottingham we lived in a village called Ravenscar, near Robin Hood's Bay, & had access to the cinder track running from Whitby to Scarborough, which was great for cycling. We've visited Rosedale, but as you say, very hilly. Ideal for walking but not cycling as pensioners.
I think we've found a site near Beverly which fits the bill, but still investigating sites midway between Nottingham & Scarborough to meet up with my sister & her motorhome (& bikes).
I've copied your borders link & will certainly survey the sites in that area.
Not in the area I looked for, but I understand Sandringham site is good for cycling, so that's in our plans for a visit too.

OF, your original post was on the 11th May and my comment was made after 6 days without a response in writing from you, which in fact you did on the 21st as you admit. As far as I and others were concerned you appeared to have not take the time to review the post, With out a reply from you I had no idea that you had read the responses.....hence my post. Hope that this clears up the matter. There have been frequent occasions where members on here have take time to respond to request and not had them acknowledged, hence my post of the 17th.

Just for info, OF, must of us only like posts that are a bit special in some way or express a view that that strikes a particular chord.
We had one thread that ran to over 10000 posts. Imagine clogging up Latest Activity by liking all them!😀

I know of someone who would have made a brave attempt to do just that!
