Choice of pitch for motorhome with rear awning

When booking a pitch on the website, one is offered the choice of a pitch with awning, or without. As most members tow caravans, there is an implicit assumption that the awning will be on the side of the 'van.

We have a Romahome (5.1m length) with a rear awning that adds another 1.8m, so overall length 6.8m: i.e. shorter than a lot of caravans.

So, should I book a pitch with or without awning? Technically, we have an awning, but it doesn't add to the width of the required pitch.

Phone your chosen site, the Wardens will advise what is best. Some pitches can be rather short length wise, and the Wardens will help. We have seen the odd outfit pitched at an angle to avoid encroachment into roadway. But you need “stepping out” space as well to be safe.

    Good advice there from TDA.

Pitches vary in shape and size and the warden knows what will suit best.

There is a 'standard' instruction/guideline on each site map/information sheet available online or handed to you on booking in, shown below. Self explanatory.

Does your unit length automatically show in your details when you book online? Or can you amend it manually to reflect the actual length? That may assist the wardens to know what size of unit to expect and manage pitches accordingly as they do at Baltic Wharf for example where there are limitations to pitches for various reasons.

You can always call the site and explain your unit on booking.

Probably best to book an awning pitch though, in case some folk think you are gaining an advantage using an awning on a non awning pitch surprised

You are at no disadvantage booking an awning pitch either in cost or choice of pitch, in fact on the latter on most sites you will have a greater choice. Given the length of your Romahome there should be plenty of room to add the awning at the rear of the unit. At least booking an awning pitch you don't have to have any discussions about what you can do on a pitch rather than arriving on site having been told its OK to have your awning on a non awning pitch only for a different member of staff to have a contrar view!

Hi does anyone know what the clubs policy is on motorhome pitching,I have a caravan so pitch the normal way with tow car one side van and awning I have been on site  a few times when a motorhome pitches up with the door facing my grass and awning Instead of away from me what happens then is you find an awning pitched on your grass or they start using the grass area right outside of your awning bit awkward really as I don’t like to say anything any comments please.

The grass area between pitches is nomansland. Both caravans and MHs can pitch either way - front or rear in. See the diagram and explanatory text above.

They can park face in or face out the same as with a caravan. The awning should fit on their pitch however and the grass dividing strip is 'no-man's land' I reckon

People are free to choose whether they reverse onto their pitch or go 'nose in'.  This is regardless of the fact that some caravans and/or motorhomes have the door on the continental side.  However, every part of the outfit must be contained within the pitch area, which is more often than not hardstanding, and not encroach on the grass strip between pitches.  People often tend to put chairs on the grass during the day but that grass strip does not form part of the pitch and an awning should not encroach onto it.

Motorhomes with rear entrance doors used to be common, not so now, shame, as I think they solve a lot of problems. As others have said book an awning pitch, they cost no extra and take away the worry of being told to take it down. I do the same although mine is just a roll out canopy. And yes I have been told to roll it in, on a non Awning pitch. Dont know why ? but there you are, awning pitches for us now.
