Best route Stirling to Ballater

This will be the first time to this area. After a few days on a CL near Stirling we had planned on driving up A93 to Ballater. On checking  on via Michelin and CAMC route planner both seem to be advising A9/B9099 out of Perth then rejoining A93 near Blairgowrie. However, if you return the same way the route is A93 all the way. Can anyone offer any advise on this please? We are towing 7.5m single axel ‘van with Landrover Freelander.

Their algoritm for calculating the route must be wonky.  B9099 goes off tthe A9 in a totally different direction needing a big loop to get to Blairgowrie if you want main roads, or an interesting drive on some narrow roads to save on miles.  A93 all the way!

The Route Planners are probably suggesting that way to avoid going into Perth.  Although its a B road it's ok.

I would go A9 from Stirling then at the Broxden Roundabout near Perth take the M90 and after a couple of miles then take the exit signed Aberdeen, Dundee, Braemar etc, cross the river and take a big loop to the A85 for Perth/Braemar, through a built up area and onto the A83 (which forks left just after Kwik Fit).

It's a bit twisty in places and there's a big climb up to the ski centre but it won't be a problem, then a nice run down into Braemar and on to Ballater.

If you're going to the community owned campsite it's a super site, now restored after the catastrophic flooding of a few years ago.
