Reserving pitches for large units
we arrived on site this afternoon hoping to get a decent pitch before the bank holiday mayhem only to see at least half a dozen of the better pitches with cones placed on them, after riding around trying to find a suitable pitch my wife decided to go and ask to see if we could use one of the pitches with a cone on.
The reply from the warden was that these had been saved for very large vehicles that was arriving later so I’m thinking a 5th wheel or the like, low and behold a twin axle caravan turns up and I don’t mean one of the massive European models just your run of the mill twin axel that if it is longer than our Motorhome then it isn’t by much.
so my question is.1.how do you reserve these pitches
2 is it actually allowed
3 you have to submit the length of your unit so do people tell fibs just to get pitches reserved??
cheers

1) you can't, the wardens will allocate them before you arrive, those outfits wouldn't know they had that particular pitch
2) yes the wardens manage the site as they see best, and it's up to them
3) well I think the wardens would notice when you arrive

But it isn’t a large unit,I’ve seen it done before and it always justified and I don’t think this is!

But I couldn’t fit on most of the other pitches available.

The downside of having a specific pitch reserved for you, for any reason, is that it takes away your choice. You may turn up with your extra large unit and find your reserved pitch is in a damp and dark spot immediately behind the facility block.

If your unit is large, you could have rung the warden and explained that. Then, you too, might have had a reserved pitch - totally at the warden's discretion, obviously. The site details tell you the largest unit that can be accepted on each site.

what size is your outfit?

but the wardens did (for some reason) and it's their job to manage the site as they think best. You could always ask them, or write in to the area manager?

I thought that was the reason you had to submit your unit details??

We did ask them and was told we couldn’t use any of those pitches

Not mouch under 8m

Perhaps but the wardens don't download the details of who's arriving until the day so it’s a bit late then to hope they notice large units and act accordingly. Best to ring a few days in advance.
You haven’t said which site it was so it’s difficult to weigh up the full story.

So not large then at all - more like "normal" these days. And within a few inches of the length of my twin axle.
From what I am reading, whatever site this is, it must have a lot of pitches under 8 meters, and perhaps those who "booked" a pitch knew this from experience and informed the wardens.

wonder what site it?
also is manoeuvring a 8m MH easier than a twin axle plus car?

OK, yes got me there

Good point but probably the 8m MH would be more difficult if based on the usual FWD Sevel offerings with poor turning circles.

dazb - the practice of reserving pitches is widespread and it is annoying when these coned pitches are not taken up or a very small outfit arrives on a huge pitch.
We recently spent 10 days at the Hebden Bridge site - weekend 23-24 March 5 pitches were reserved and the weekend 30-31 March 4 pitches were reserved - it's none of my business to ask why, but the pitches were desirable riverside ones and reserved pitch occupants were known to others on site.
In the past when I've phoned ahead to say we are largish but within the site length limit the response has been "We don't reserve pitches - you'll just have to choose from what's available when you arrive" was spat at me.

Or a twin axle plus motor mover . . . . ?

I suggest people witnessing apparent inappropriate pitch reservations complain to the club.

That's my view as well, Husky, but some folk seem upset about it.

I'm not familiar with the Iveco, PD, is it front or rear wheel drive?
