Regional MWD discrimination CMC?

Hi campers.....we are established members from Northumberland and enjoy our local items as well as traveling extensively....including Europe.

We find our local winter choices for bookings very limited as well as the MWD options which are only two (Yorkshire & Teeside) sites, whereas the number and choices available elsewhere in the country are by far more extensive.....

Is this fair to the huge number of North Region members of the CMC?

If the CMC has the interest's of its membership at heart (rather than profit !) Then should it put us first by spreading the site availability and offers more fairly?

At least you have sites which are open in winter.

It makes little sense to have mid week discounts on some of the most popular sites.

Interesting question given the posts on here to do with prices etc. lately. Maybe put this to your regional council meeting for and answer from HQ.

However you are missing quite a few sites in your reachable area given your location. As well as the two you mention there are others. Edinburgh , Yellowcraig and Balbirnie Park in the lower end of Scotland. Also Coniston and Meathop Fell in the lake district.

Yellowcraig isn’t open all year, like many others it closes for around 3months I think.

The Club IS primarily about making money, most of which is ploughed back into the network in one way or another, but it can be frustrating if you are a year round tourer.

The MWD will only apply at sites that quite frankly require it, and this is unlikely to include anywhere that enjoys a good level of bookings. Whilst many of us can and do make use of this discount, there are many others who are quite happy to pay the going rate the Club sets at both weekends and mid week. No criticism of anyone intended, we all make our choices. Nothing will change until it becomes blatantly obvious that a site could benefit from a discount in terms of occupancy levels on a regular basis. This is countrywide, not cherrypicked on a regional basis. We have learned to search out other options, and Northumberland is one where this has paid off for us. We don’t like Seaview, but a few miles South at Beal is a cracking private set up at The Barn at Beal. Fantastic location. I think it is open all year. 😀

Next December the only two sites with MWD in our area are Hillhead and Longleat, the list is quite small elsewhere too, it improves slightly as the season expands.

We don't seek out a mid week discount as we choose sites based on a route but have occasionally benefitted from them. They do not encourage our visits therefore but I suppose they might for some

The mid week discounts have been useful for us at Hillhead, we often go out of the main season. There isn't much choice in the SW during the winter and Hillhead closes early January. So the offers are useful to us if we want to stay near to home.

Hey folks....thanks for your replies.....very interesting to see the points made....we have none of the Northumberland sites open from November to March....and as far as MWD only applying to the less popular sites, ours must be Very popular!

Thanks too to Takethedogalong....for the tip about the Barn at Beal. We love it too !

    Enjoy !

I don't think you are discriminated against at all, well, no more than the rest of us. The club do not seem to want to encourage people out in January and February with MWD. Only 7 sites across the whole network. Might have something to do with increased electric consumption.

There are no sites open at all in winter in certain areas. The west of Wales, Suffolk, Essex etc. Mind you these areas are under represented in sites at any time of year.

I suspect that there are no more than 70 CC sites (not affiliated sites) open in January.

Here’s another little Northumbrian gem for you as well, although not open all year

    http://westkyloe.co.uk/

Lovely location, mainly grass, but facilities are nice and clean. Voted our best campsite find a couple of years ago.😁
