hi I wander if anyone can help please.

we are planing a trip end of June and fancy a coastal site I’ve narrowed it down to two but the reviews are putting me off as I’ve not been to either. The sites are St David’s and Cromer.

we are 2 adults 2 dogs with Motorhome and prefare  to walk everywhere rather than drive or take local transport so towns and villages close by helps and plenty of choice for dog walks.

any help appreciated

thanks

Have you looked at White House Beach club site, its on the beach almost and the beach is dog friendly all year. It's near Lowestoft.

Perhaps Dennis Cove at Padstow - providing your Motorhome is not too big. It's on the waterside just a ten minute walk along a level footpath /cyclepath to the town and the harbour. Things don't come prettier than this!

Not a club site, but 3 Cliffs Bay at Penmaen on The Gower is about as close to the coast as you can get with superb views and a dog friendly beach. Loads of walking in the area. smile

Whether  you prefer St Davids or Cromer boils down to how much of a rural  environment you prefer. St David's is more isolated and rural than Cromer but much more scenic. I consider both better than White House.

I'm not sure what is putting you off Cromer and St David's (both are completely different.) Cromer town itself is within walking distance along the coast path plus the local village and beach access. St David's is further from it's namesake "city" but the coastal walks are excellent, you'd need to check access for dogs on the local surfing beach. There are some lovely villages along the coast too.

If you like walking somewhere like St Agnes or Trewethett might suit but they are more rural.

Much depends on which part of the uk you want to see, there are a lot of coastal sites. smile

There is a Pub at the site entrance and and a very nice restaurant. the village has a chip shop and a couple of other shops and there is a supermarket nearby as well. Not sure, but I think you can walk along the coastal path in to lowestoft. Sothwould which is beautiful is only a short drive away or Bus ride ?

We were there last year with our 2 border collies and will be  visiting again in the future.

We've just stayed at Old Hartley, miles of coastal walking there, pub on the corner, shop nearby and buses every ten minutes to Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and Newcastle etc.

Having stayed at both Seacroft (Cromer) and Whitehouse Beach (Kessingland) several times I think of the two I would prefer Cromer for convenience . Kessingland is a bit more like Dickens,  David Copperfield! although none the less interesting. There is public transport although more buses go from the top of the village (near the A12) than from near the campsite. At Cromer not only can you walk into the town there are regular bus services from immediately outside the site and in Cromer you have the option of the train. Being mindful of another discussion on here at the moment you might need to check if dogs are allowed on the buses in these areas. Also support Brue's suggestion of Old Hartley, it would meet many of your requirements.

Must it be an even/or decision. Could you not go to Norfolk/Suffolk for one holiday and St David's for another?

    David

Nearby to Cromer Incleboro Fields in Norfolk would be my preferred "dog" option as the sea and village are a pleasant stroll away. Plus the buses and  station.  As a bonus there are  some lovely ancient woodland and hill walks at the back of the site.

We have used White House Beach. Good for being right on coast, but afraid we didn’t rate Lowestoft as a desirable destination, and elsewhere is a very long walk or a bus ride. St David’s and St Agnes are very rural, and a longish walk to anywhere. We don’t like Cromer, neither did our friends, but it fits the walk everywhere category. I would opt for Incleborough in preference, much nicer location and site.

Best place I can offer is Yellowcraig, near North Berwick. A stunning site outside of school holidays, which this being Scotland you will need to check. NorthBerwick is a lovely place and an easy coastal stroll. Dirleton village half a mile from site has a fantastic castle and gardens, and a nice pub. Transport links are excellent, Beach and dunes great for short strolls or longer walks.

Marazion is another recommend, but no onsite facilities. Coast is around 3 miles away, but St Hilary village has two nice pubs and a decent shop, and Marazion is lovely.

It all depends how far you want to walk. Many Club Sites are misleading in terms of true location, they are often quite a distance from their actual name!😁

We live not far from St Davids, it is an all grass site, unfortunately the nearest beach Whitesands is off limits for dogs all through the Summer. That being said the area is beautiful and there are dog friendly beaches within walking distance Porthmelgan and Porthclais. St Davids City itself is about Mile and a half walk away. And is very dog friendly.Coastal Hopper bus service allows dogs, and stops at many of the local beaches and attractions.

Been to Cromer (incelboro fields) and Lowestoft (White house bay) both are fine, of the two  think Incelboro fields is better for dogs IMO. Seacroft at Cromer is not to our taste, restaurant and pool and too busy. But if you like that, right in Cromer.

If you are thinking of South Wales then the site at Freshwater East might be better. There is plenty of walking from site, it's right across the road from the beach, yoh can also catch the coast hopper bus along to places like Brotherton Lakes. Fantastic scenery. There are also buses you can take to places like Tenby.

We've stayed at both St.Davids and Freshwater. The commercial site at St.Davids (can't recall name) is better IMO but nothing wrong with the CAMC site except you'll end up on grass. We would probably prefer the Freshwater site.

To be honest, and to get more options, I would consider looking at some CLs that perhaps fit your requirements. There are a lot of coastal ones, far more than Club Sites, and many offer similar, if not better facilities than Club Sites, often at smaller prices. There are some lovely CLs out there close to exactly what you appear to want, coastal, dog friendly, interesting walking locations, nice villages nearby. Some of the posters on here have used a lot of CLs, and provide honest, well informed reviews that might just give you everything you require. If you suggest an area you fancy, eg, South West, North Wales, Etc.... or even better, maybe a town, then I am sure a good number of folks will make specific CL suggestions. We did this for a North Wales tour, and got some great examples. But do it in the CL posting thread, and perhaps indicate what if any facilities you really need, eg Ehu, HS, loos, showers etc....😃

Incleboro Fields (Cromer area) and Old Hartley get my dog's vote.

Bosherton Ponds, lovely place, with a stunning beach at the end. Brotherton is in Yorkshire, now bypassed by new A1M. 😁
