TV in awning

We have just spent four of the nicest, sunny March days that we can remember at Putt's Corner. This site is great for wildlife and is a very nicely run, peaceful site. However, our final day was spoilt by the arrival of new neighbours. We had decided to return to our van at about 3.00pm to sit out and enjoy the warm sun and watch the birds, squirrels etc. and just relax. To our amazement, the new neighbours had erected their awning and were nicely settled watching television, apparently oblivious to the glorious weather outside! Although not excessively loud, the volume was sufficiently high that we could hear every word, even from inside our van. Sadly this persisted right up to 10.30pm, when they were still sat in their awning in an outside  temperature of just 4c, no doubt pumping out as much heat as required!

This raises the age old problem of having to confront your neighbour, thereby causing a nasty atmosphere for the rest of your stay. Why can't people just be considerate and simply consider the impact their antisocial behaviour is having on other campers? If everyone behaved in that manner I for one would give up caravanning after more than 45 years of mostly very enjoyable experiences.

They are oblivious to the fact that sound carries through awning walls.

A polite word rather than confrontation is always worth a try. 👍🏻

I've done just that on more than one occasion. Whilst staying at Meathop last summer.  Even inside our van with our door and windows closed I could hear their telly above my music so hubby went across to ask them to turn it down a little.  Turns out they were a tad deaf and apologised most profusely and we ended up chatting to them and they were lovely neighbours.

I normally stand on the roadway at the edge of my pitch to check whether I can hear my music.  If I can then so can others so I turn it down.

No need to suffer in silence or have a 'confrontation'.

We had one of those recently, Full awning, a large halogen heater racking up the leccy usage , table with TV...and would you believe an inflateable settee !!! oh yes and three yappy rats on string...given that their awning was virtually touching the other side of the dividing hedge (just over 3m) from our caravan...we moved!!

Our memorable TV event was a Bank Holiday one on a C&CC site, we were next to the warden's tent and we had the Edinburgh Tattoo at full blast coming from his TV in the tent. (It's much better watched live in Edinburgh! ) We were in Devon. wink

That is exactly what i (or the OH) do...only takes a minute...began doing this last year when I was diagnosed with slight hearing loss..

    Also do the same.👍

Its particularly annoying when they are watching sporting events, that I am recording to watch later, when the suns gone down. Mind you those radios in the toilet block are also a problem in that respect. Nipped into the facilities at Brid last year, only to be bombarded with who had won that day's Tour de France Stage.😂

You have paid for your sort of holiday and while references to others not holidaying your way are irrelevant, you are entitled to enjoy your holiday as you wish.

If someone or something is annoying you sufficiency then do something about it!

Either see them yourself with the usual friendly British way of a hundred apologies saying really it's your fault that you have such good hearing but would they mind turning it down, or see the wardens.

Not something that we have frequently encountered. Probably the worst time is during world cup surprised

I do remember well in 2005 or 2006 at Moorhampton CC site during a summer stay. There was an elderly couple opposite us. The woman was not very mobile and was very deaf. The chap spent a lot of time sat outside the 'van to avoid the TV. The lady must have had box sets of Sharpe (drama during the Napoleonic Wars).

The volume was high but we were off site most of the time but I did not complain as I felt very sorry for the old chap sat outside. smile

I do the same on the rare occasion when we are playing music.

I've yet to see anyone stand at the edge of their pitch with a strained look of concentration  .... 😉

I know that I once had to endure someone sat outside his caravan singing praises to his god while strumming his guitar ....  I thought of a few things I'd have liked to do with the guitar

Apparently, as MrsSF tells me, older age has brought me a little deafness. My daughter is always telling me the TV is too loud too.

Now we like TV in the awning so I've bought us both some Bluetooth head phones. Brilliant, I can have the sound up high now without effecting those on adjacent pitches. What's more on a recent trip I was watching the 6 Nations and the commentary even reached as for as the toilet block which I needed mid way through the match. wink Just as useful back home too.

Best one for us...we were camped down in the Lot valley a few years ago and sat in the awning with all front panels rolled up enjoying the sun and the vino only to hear the strains of Coronation Street burst out from another awning. Don't you just love being abroad!
