Hi

New to caravanning and going on our 1st trip in a couple of weeks and need some advice on getting hot water through the taps.  Do I just need to fill my Aquaroll  put in the "whale pump"  and turn on the water heater and hot water will  appear   or do I need to fill the main water tank and then get the hot water through there ?

Thanks in advance

    Hello

It's an immersion heater, not on demand hot water. Once all connected, you will have to fill up the hot water tank from the cold water in the aqua roll. Connect up, switch on the pump, open the cold to get the water to it then close. Now you fill the tank (on ours) by opening the hot tap and it will gurgle away for a few minutes before cold water comes out of it in a steady stream. Close the tap, turn on the hot water heating and/or space heating on either gas and/or electric and wait. Ours takes about 20 minutes. Depending on your heater settings it might warm the van before heating the water so check the instructions

Just in case: make sure the drain tap is closed, DON'T switch on the hot water heating without water in the tank as the thermal cut out may operate and you'll have to reset it, not difficult but prevention is better than cure.

Enjoy your trip, first time is daunting, I remember it well, wandering about with an  instruction manual in hand, but after a while it becomes second nature. If you need help just ask, either wardens or your neighbour, everyone is keen to help I've found.

"or do I need to fill the main water tank and then get the hot water through there ?"

This raises the question, have you a water storage tank, or by that, do you mean the water heating "boiler", as has been assumed in "corner's" response?

If you identified the van some here would probably know the specific details of the water system.

Mine, I have a built in water storage tank and can select whether to draw water, if hot, then it is via a boiler, from this tank or an Aquaroll.

sorry yes, good point, I assumed it was 'my way' due to the turn on the water heater and hot water will appear line.

Interesting to see what Keith replies.

Well, sorry Keith in that I for one have no recollection of how Elddis did their water systems  back then, others are needed to supply the specifics. Unfortunately, there are various solutions the makers used.

But generally all will achieve hot water by displacing some already heated and contained within the capacity of the boiler, by simply pumping in some cold at the bottom. Therefore, the amount of hot per take off is limited by the boiler's capacity, and requires that the boiler is filled and has its heating switched on some 15/30 minutes before hot is required. Many can heat the water by gas and or electricity and typically boilers are between 8 and 10 litres holding capacity.

a pleasure, then it's the method in my first post.

PS If you get tired of filling and emptying the aqua roll and waste master, there is always service pitchessmile

    Possibly a Carver Cascade type?

In a 1992 van maybe gas only for heating?

HW tanks are fairly small, Keith, around 8-10 litres and usually insulated, whereas a CW onboard tank would be much larger, 20-40 litres.

CW tanks are normally only fitted on larger/twin axle vans.
